The movies that get nominated for Oscars are undoubtedly the best of the year. But every year there are so many movies that get nominated or even the ones who win come to you as movies you’ve probably haven’t heard of or watched. And this year, before you repeat the same mistake we have picked these movies from the Oscar nominations for you to watch before the big day. These movies are not to be missed out on! So, here’s the list all, you have to do is make sure you watch these before Oscars come knocking on your television screens!

 

#1 The Revenant

Based in the 1823, legendary frontiersman, this movie revolves around Hugh Glass (Leonardo DeCaprio), who is left behind by his hunting team after he is attacked by a bear and receives injuries. He utilises his survival skills and figures a way out to get to his family. Glass makes way and goes looking for John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), a former confidant who betrayed him and left him to die.  Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu

 

#2 Spotlight

Spotlight is based on the true story of a team of journalists who were put together by the editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe, to investigate allegations against an unfrocked priest, John Geoghan. Geoghan had been accused of molesting more than 80 boys and the reporters make it their mission to find the evidence against the Roman Catholic Church posing as a cover up for sexual abuse. It stars, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Micheal Keaton, Live Schrieber and more. Director: Tom McCarthy.

 

#3 Bridge of Spies

New York-based lawyer James Donovan (Tom Hanks) is recruited by a CIA operative to negotiate the release of U.S. pilot Francis Gary Powers who was captured by the Soviet Union after his spy plane was shot down. Gary is sentenced for 10 years in jail and his only hope his James who boards the plane to Berlin, hoping to win the case by a prisoner exchange. If everything goes as planned, the Russian’s would get Rudolph Abel (Mark Rylance) the convicted spy who was defended by James in court. Director: Steven Spielberg.

 

#4 The Danish Girl

Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne), an artist prepares himself to undergo a sex change operation while his wife, Gerda (Alicia Vikander), stands with him in complete support. Director:  Tom Hooper.

 

#5 The Big Short

Four outsiders foresee the crash of a global economy and come up with the idea, The Big Short. Making bold investments shows a new side of modern banking where they should question everything and everyone. Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrel play the leads in the movie. Director: Adam McCay.

 

#6 The Martian

Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is sent to Mars with his team for a mission. Things go bad when the weather changes for the worse and Mark gets caught up in a storm and is left behind by his crew presuming he’s dead. After gaining senses, Mark realizes that he’s left with limited supplies and needs to find a way to contact Earth to let them know about his situation. The moment Mark’s crew get this information they plan a very challenging rescue mission. The story follows the measures taken to bring back Mark Wattney. Director: Ridley Scott

 

#7 Trumbo

In 1940s Hollywood, Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston), a screenwriter is ordered to show up by the House of Un-American Activities Committee for bringing his Communist sympathies and cronies to light. Trumbo chooses to keep shut and asks his friends to do the same, just to protect their American rights. Being held in contempt of Congress, he’s sent to prison. After his release, Trumbo is told that he and his friends have been blacklisted and studios have been asked the by the government not to hire them. Trumbo then takes work with just a little money and no credit. After using a pen-name, Trumbo finally comes out with major works that he wrote and hopes it will bring an end to the suffering that victims of the Hollywood blacklist have been through. Director: Jay Roach.

 

#8 Creed

The seventh installation of the Rocky series is no less from the previous ones. Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), the retired champ is found by Adonis Johnson, son of Apollo Creed who died before Adonis was born. Adonis gets a hold of Rocky and asks him to train him, seeing much of Creed in Adonis, Rocky agrees to coach him. Adonis, having boxing in his blood still has to face an opponent deadlier than him and soon gets a shot at the title, with Rocky’s help. Director: Ryan Coogler.

 

#9 Steve Jobs

Co-founder of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs’ (Michael Fassbender) story about how he developed computers that changes the way to look at them and technology. The movie also stars: Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels. Director: Danny Boyle.
