  • Make this Diwali safe for your pets, they can’t tell you how scared they are of fireworks

Make this Diwali safe for your pets, they can’t tell you how scared they are of fireworks

Pets are as important as any family member and they love to be treated like that. All they have for us is their unconditional, undying love and there’s no reason for us to not reciprocate. So this Diwali, make your pets an equal part of the festivities and take extra care of them because they don’t anticipate the sound of the firecrackers, the noise and the fire sparklers like we do. And they get scared just like a little kid would. Here’s why pets need extra care on Diwali and how you can keep them feeling safe, protected and at home.

    Inp img-1

Reasons why fireworks are dangerous for pets, stray and domestic both

#1 Pets have senses that make fireworks more intense for them than for you

Pets, especially dogs are blessed with very strong senses like hearing. So a firecracker sounds much louder in their world than it does in ours. Basically, during fireworks, your dog experiences the same kind of alarmed response you do when you’re surprised by a loud noise.

Solution: Prepare your house for the pets. Shut the curtains and the windows if you can’t escape the noise coming from outside. If your pet is caged, cover the cage with a thick blanket and make sure that they get to listen to the usual sounds like the radio or the TV to keep them from getting scared.

#2 Pets do not anticipate the festival and the noise associated with it

While we get a fair share of time to prepare ourselves for the sound associated with firecrackers, our pets do not. Neither do they cover their ears with their hands when a loud cracker bursts.

Solution: If there is no way to keep your pet away from the loud noise of the firecrackers, prepare and acclimatize. Make them listen to these kinds of sounds in advance on the TV or recordings. Give them time to prepare themselves and help them in the process.

#3 Pets get scared of fireworks because of many factors other than sound and it’s normal

Just like a little kid, pets also get scared of fireworks. It’s not only the sound but also the lights and the fumes that make them feel agitated. And it’s absolutely normal.

Solution: To make your pets feel comfortable, acclimatize them first (as mentioned above) and then make sure you get them some thing of their liking. It could be a treat, their favourite toy or something they like to play with. This helps in keeping them distracted and feeling happy.

    Feature img-2

Same goes for the strays around you. Those little furry babies need the same kind of love and protection. After all, Diwali is all about love for the ones around you then why should the strays near you feel left out.

Not just your pets, stray animals also go through all of this too.

Make sure you do not burst any crackers around any stray animals. Educate your kids about the effects of fireworks on the speechless animals and urge them to be considerate. Provide blankets and food to the strays and ensure they are in a safe corner. Make them feel equally comfortable.

Here are some more ways to keep your pets and strays safe during Diwali

    Prepare a room

If you’re not keeping your pets with you during fireworks (which is the sensible thing to do) prepare a room for them. Find a silent room or a corner for them and put food, treats, a cozy blanket, remove sharp items and make sure the room is at a nice temperature for them to feel safe. Keep checking on them whenever you get time and make them a part of the festivities after the fireworks are over.

Make them comfortable if they are with you

If there is no way for you to leave your pet in a safe corner, keep your pet with you but communicate with them. Tell them you’ve got their back and remember that pets communicate with energy; if you don’t make a big deal out of the fireworks they won’t either. Keep comforting them from time to time and be around them.

Cover them with thundershirts or calming wraps

Thundershirts are especially designed to keep your pets’ anxiety levels in control. They apply a gentle, constant pressure on a dog or cat’s torso that helps in relieving anxiety. Use thundershirts for your pets if you can’t find any other way to keep them feeling peaceful on Diwali.

We request you to understand what other living beings of the society go through as we go on bursting crackers. They deserve an equal chance of enjoying with us so this time, light only diyas, no crackers and watch the world change.

  • Hair hacks every girl should know

Hair hacks every girl should know

The toughest part about getting ready in the morning is not always getting the right clothes; it’s getting the right hair. And everyone has those hurried morning when hair styling takes a back seat because the alarm didn’t go off or you decided to sleep in for those extra 20 minutes. For those dreaded days, we have got you these easy simple yet affordable hair hacks that can make one go from drab to fab in less than 10 minutes.

    1. Dry Shampoo

We don’t always get time to wash and dry our hair in the mornings and the horror of having an oily and greasy scalp in public has given nightmares to many. To avoid that situation, just sprinkle some dry shampoo on to your roots and along the base of your hair and it will help in absorbing all the oil from your scalp giving your hair a more polished and fresh look. But the key to using dry shampoo is to use it before your head hits the pillow at night. The dry shampoo will do its magic overnight, resulting in healthy looking hair in the morning.

Tip: If you don’t have dry shampoo, you can also use baby powder to solve the purpose.

    hair hacks

    2. Tame down the frizz with the colour brush

If you are ready to go out with your hair tied in a bun or a braid but those flyways are bothering you then this hack is all you need. Tame down that frizz with the help of a colour brush and hairspray. Spray just enough hairspray to cover the bristles of the colour brush and run it over those stubborn flyaway strands to tame it down (after you are done with your hairdo). This will hold your hair in place for quite a long time.

Tip: You can use an old toothbrush if you don’t have a colour brush.

    hair hacks

    3. Spin pins

Sometimes using too many bobby pins becomes very painful but you can swap them with *drum rolls in the background* spin pins. If you haven’t heard of spin pins, you are missing out. They are sort of twisted bobby pins and have extra grip which helps in holding your hair in place. So, instead of using 20 bobby pins use 2 to 3 spin pins and keep your hair intact. Throw your hair up in a bun, spin the pin to your hair and you are good to go.

    hair hacks

    4. Ponytail curls

Curling those long tresses takes a lot of time but if you have invested energy and efforts in your makeup and preparing your outfit, you definitely would not want to compromise with your hair. Would you ? Don’t waste time on thinking, we have got a solution for you. Now you can curl your hair and that too in 5 minutes. Pull all your hair up in a very high ponytail (exactly on top of your head) and taking small sections, wrap them around the curling iron. Once you’re done curling all the sections, untie your hair and spray some hairspray. This is a quick method to curl your hair and you can also make sure that you don’t miss out any strands of hair uncurled.

    hair hacks

    5. Headband hairdo

It is very difficult to manage freshly washed hair, but here’s a hair hack that’s sure to help you. All you need is a headband. Grab the headband, wrap all your hair through it and you have a really pretty headband hairstyle. It might look like you have spent a lot of time doing this hairdo but in reality it only takes one minute. This is a really fun way to accessorise your updo with a colourful headband and also keep your hair out of your face.

    hair hacks

    6. Messy bun

The safest and quickest hair hack when you’re running short of time is to tie your hair in a messy bun. There is no particular way of doing a messy bun and there are no steps to follow to achieve that look. Basically, you just have to mess up the bun and fix those loose locks with few bobby pins.

  • Look beautiful this Diwali with these festive beauty hacks

Look beautiful this Diwali with these festive beauty hacks

Yes it’s that time of the year again, where the city shines bright with houses decorated and lit up in festive lights. Whether you’re spending time with your family or heading out to glitzy parties with your best buds, there’s no doubt that you would want to look your best. Celebrate this season with complete festive fervour and look beautiful with these Diwali makeup tips.

    Skin SOS

To make sure that your skin glows (despite the endless flow of alcohol) over the festive period your daily moisturiser is not enough. Prepare your skin a day in advance and look radiant during the celebrations. Facials and face masks rejuvenate the skin and make it look younger, try these homemade face masks to cleanse your skin and get that natural glow.

    1) Oatmeal mask absorbs extra oil from the skin, removes impurities and cleanses all the pores. Blend two tsp of oatmeal in hot water and add one tsp each of honey, lemon juice and two tsp of yoghurt. Apply this thick paste evenly on your face. Rinse with lukewarm water once the mask is completely dry.

    2) Fruits can work wonders for your skin and can give you a glowing skin instantly. Prepare a fruit pack by mixing papaya, cucumber and banana pulp; add two tsp of cream and mix well. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.

    Hair SOS

We know that festive season can be hectic and styling your hair everyday gets very taxing. Moreover, daily styling may also damage your hair. Treat yourself to a professional blow dry as it adds more shine to your hair and helps in holding the style for long. Use dry shampoo to give ample body to your hair and absorb excess oil in between washes. Check out this video by Alexandrea Garza and learn how to blow dry your hair, salon style at home.

Try these homemade hair masks to add volume and shine to your hair.

    1) Egg masks are moisturising and they add volume to dry and limp hair. They also help in reducing hair breakage by nourishing the roots and promote hair growth. Beat an egg yolk and add two tsp of olive oil, a cup of milk and four tsp of lemon juice. Apply it to your scalp and rinse it off, after 20 minutes, with cold water.

    2) Yoghurt masks are ideal for those whose hair is damaged due to extreme styling. Massage half a cup of yoghurt onto slightly damp hair, leave it for 15-20 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.

    Tired eyes

Festive season and social gatherings go hand-in-hand and all those nights partying are bound to leave your eyes looking tired. To make sure that you stay bright and fresh at every gathering, take some cotton and soak it in a cup of cold milk for a few seconds. Place the cotton over your eyes and leave it for a few minutes.

    Nail art

Nothing says Diwali like glitter. Add a little sparkle to your nails with this easy glitter gradient nail art.

  • Get your Diwali fashion fix with this week’s outfit of the week

Get your Diwali fashion fix with this week’s outfit of the week

Diwali is around the corner and we believe dressing the part is just as important as all the other rituals. So if you’re looking for Diwali outfit inspiration, we have something for you. Give the usual salwar kameez a skip and try out the hottest trend of the season – Dhoti pants.

Dhoti pants have been named after ‘Dhoti’, a traditional garment worn by men in India. But with change in style and fashion preferences, this garment has been adopted by women in an ethnic fusion form. A popular choice amongst many celebrities, designers and stylists, Dhoti pants make for a great change from the usual salwars and churidars. And if you are confused about styling it the right way, take inspiration from Bollywood’s very own fashionista, Sonam Kapoor.

    Inp-1

Our suggestion for making Dhoti pants a successful Diwali outfit will be to pair the pants with a well-tailored top that balances out the volume at the bottom. These pants look their best in brighter colours so go ahead and experiment; however ensure that the top is of a neutral/earthy shade. Do remember to add some bling with big earrings and other accessories. We’d recommend minimal makeup but feel free to adjust it according to the occasion and your preference.

Not just tailored-tops Dhoti pants look great with tunics, crop tops and maxi tops.

  • 10 serious Diwali cards parties ’ commandments you should follow this season!

10 serious Diwali cards parties ’ commandments you should follow this season!

The best time of the year, we mean Diwali, is here and we just cannot hold the excitement in! Most of us have already started planning the Diwali cards parties we’d be hosting and attending through the next couple of weeks and are anticipating only fun! However to get the most out of these Diwali cards parties, there are some rules one must follow. Take a look at ten serious Diwali parties’ commandments you should follow this season!

    Diwali

    1. Thou shalt dress up for the occasion.

Be in your best Indian wear when you’re going for Diwali parties. It doesn’t matter if the party is at your best friend’s house or in your own den. It’s not every day you get to attend a festive gathering with your loved ones.

    2. Thou shalt not go empty handed to your mate’s house.

Well, not like your friend who is the organiser is expecting his guests to get him goodies; but it’s just a bad thing to go to a house party empty handed. Take a bottle of wine or champagne. Or if you want to refrain from getting alcohol, simply get a box of sweets or chocolates and you’re sorted.

    3. Thou shalt reach on time for the party.

Understand this – someone made all the efforts of organising a party. From setting up the place to arranging the food and drinks, they’ve done it all. In such a scenario, you just have to show up! The least you can do is appreciate his efforts and show up on time.

    4. Thou shalt hold your drinks.

Yay! Who doesn’t like free alcohol? But remember, it’s a social gathering where your main motive should include celebrating the festive spirit with your loved ones (and of course winning some money at the end of the day). And for this reason, we’d advise you to hold your drinks and not be the first one to get hammered losing all control of your mind and body.

    5. Thou shalt be a sport (even if you don’t gamble).

Don’t be a party pooper. If you don’t know how to play, it’s absolutely fine. Just make sure that you’re a part of the game in the right spirit and encourage people around you to play better.

    6. Thou shalt understand the rules of the game before placing your bet!

Everybody makes rookie mistakes while playing especially when there’s alcohol involved. Play smart and play safe, which is all you need to concentrate on.

    7. Thou shalt (under no circumstances) play unfair.

The easiest thing to do while playing Teen Patti (or any other game) is to be unfair to your mates. Peeping into their cards or being unfair with money should NOT be a part of your agenda for the night! That’s plain wrong! Period.

    8. Thou shalt not give up (even after losing multiple times).

Everybody loses at some point in life. Then how’s playing cards any different? Keep going until you realise that luck isn’t in your favour for the night and you’ve probably ran out of all your money.

    9. Thou shalt not fight with your mates over petty issues in the game.

Diwali card parties are all about celebrating the festive spirit. We bet it is the best time of the year for a lot of people and in the same spirit, do not….we repeat DO NOT create a scene at the party over petty issues. No one wants drama at an event that’s supposed to be fun and exciting.

    10. Thou shalt stay away from your mobile phones and other electronic items to enjoy the real party!

Your social media updates can wait. Live the moment rather than being stuck to your cell phones and laptops.

There! You’re now a pro when it comes to attending/hosting Diwali parties.

And on this note, Team Trendspotters TV wishes all you beautiful people out there a very Happy festive season! Stay awesome.

  • Here’s your guide to looking stylish effortlessly ALL THE TIME!

Here’s your guide to looking stylish effortlessly ALL THE TIME!

We all have those days when putting together an outfit turns into the toughest task. Not because we don’t have enough pieces (old and new) in our wardrobes, but because the brain just can’t figure the perfect ensemble that day. For all those days and others too, here’s the perfect guide to looking stylish effortlessly and all the time. Fashion blogger Carly Cristman and celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese share their favourite tricks to looking fashionable and stylish by pairing things that are already kept in your wardrobe. Take a look.

    #1) Get the right proportions

Both Carly Cristman and Lindsay Albanese suggest that even when you’re pairing a simple top with a pair of jeans, wearing them in the right proportion is the key to making it stand out and looking stylish. For instance if you’re wearing a boxy top, ensure that it is worn with something fitted.

    proportions

    #2) Lindsay’s Hip Tip

When wearing a simple outfit like a T-shirt paired with shorts, tuck the T-shirt into your shorts partially (called the Lindsay’s Hip Tip) to add an extra stylish detail. It defines your waistline and adds a personal touch to the outfit.

    Lindsay's Hip Tip

    #3) Monochromatic

The ultimate guide to looking stylish even when you’re stressed is to go for monochrome. Pick one colour, black for example and go all black. The point here to keep in mind is pairing different hues of the same colour.

    monochromatic

    #4) Accessorize

Accessories always up the style factor and there’s no reason one should shy away from them. Add a chunky choker neck piece to a plain dress or a dainty pendant to an outfit to put together a finished look.

     Accessorize

    #5) Know your favourites

It is always best to know about your favourite pieces in your wardrobe for those days when you just can’t fix yourself on one outfit. Best advice is to keep staple garments like a pair of blue denims, a little black dress and the perfect white shirt handy at all times to avoid confusion.

  • Men’s Fashion 104: Three underrated essentials for men to get their hands on!

Men’s Fashion 104: Three underrated essentials for men to get their hands on!

If you think men don’t have much to experiment with when it comes to fashion and style, we should tell you without wasting any time that you’re not wrong. Yes, we agree that women have more areas to experiment with, no second thought about that but men have enough things which can help them turn countless faces in their direction. Today we’ll shed light only on three such underrated essentials for men. Dear men, feel proud as you scroll down your screen!

     #1 Sunglasses

Ask men what is their favourite accessory and count how many of them raise their hands when it comes to sunglasses. From retro style, aviators, wayfarers to shields and more, men have choices. And if you think sunglasses aren’t for you, you’re wrong. There’s a pair for every face in the world, you just haven’t found the one that suits you best. It also depends on your face structure. So, don’t worry, just dig for the one that goes with your style.

    #2 Beard

“Grow what your father gave you” – unknown.

Whoever said that, was the wisest beard-lover, hands down. Everybody has their own style of beard, their own growth and hair colour. You can let it grow as it is but if you feel like styling it, don’t hold back. Look for latest trends the world has to offer, find your inspiration anywhere and try it on. Never forget, experimenting is always good. You’ve got to play with yourself. (No pun intended)

    #3 Happy Socks

The one thing every man needs in his wardrobe is a pair of happy socks. Happy Socks are printed socks, could be polka dots, a print of your favourite superhero or your favourite food. What they do is add a little element of fun to your overall outfit which includes a formal suit as well. Wear these happy socks and face the day in the right spirit.
