Kolkata is taking a step ahead with the first ever Transgender Durga Puja

A small neighbourhood in Kolkata is all set to celebrate the first ever Transgender Durga Puja that India will witness. The 27 year old, Udyami Yubak Brinda Puja, is one of the small-budget puja communities from West Bengal that rely on local household donations. Back in 2007, the donations turned out to be so low that they had to put in money from their own pockets to celebrate the festival.

In partnership with Pratyay Gender Trust, which is a local transgender persons’ collective, the puja community is going to be the first one ever to idolize the ‘transgender’ Durga deity. This Sunday, history will be made as the puja commences. The puja idol’s inspiration came from one of Shiva and Parvati’s form –‘Ardhanarishvara’. China Pal, who is the creator of the puja idol, is also the only woman potter from Kumortuli; north Kolkata’s traditional potter’s quarters. The sculpture of transgender Durga showcases a man on one half of the idol with a moustache, pectoral instead of a breast, smaller eyelash and a traditional dhoti. The other half is Durga itself.

  • How would you like it if Barack Obama crashed your wedding?

How would you like it if Barack Obama crashed your wedding?

During his recent visit to California, President Barack Obama made a small appearance at a wedding that changed a couple’s life. Just a little while before Stephanie and Brian Tobe were about to exchange their vows at their golf course wedding, the couple was surprised by a last minute guest, Barack Obama. Mr. President happened to be playing a round of golf at The Lodge at Torrey Pines and the couple was asked to either delay the ceremony or get it done with immediately.

Goes without saying, they chose to delay it while immersing themselves in some champagne and the bride ran down from their suite to get a picture with the president and he was happy to be a part of their wedding. Take a look at the beautiful pictures.

  • Here’s how Pero’s ‘Pajama Party’ stole our hearts at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016

Here’s how Pero’s ‘Pajama Party’ stole our hearts at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016

Designer Aneeth Arora has made a very impressive mark in the Indian fashion industry with her comprehensive collections year after year. Not only are her shows a delight to watch, her press kits are full of goodies that never make you forget her collection.

At Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer’16, Aneeth Arora’s collection titled ‘pajama party’ which was an introduction to her sub brand ‘Lazy Pero’ stole our hearts and how! Inspired by the 50’s, her show had the runway decked with beds and models wearing separates, shift dresses and summer jackets in soft summer fabrics.

    Inp img-1

The show was a slumber party on the ramp with the models having a ball in their lounge wear. Her collection was the perfect combination of comfortable and chic with checks, prints, stripes, loose and boxy silhouettes in shades of blue, white, yellow and gold. The accessories perfectly complemented the theme of the show with models wearing backpacks, foam slippers, headbands, books, hair rollers and much more.

    Inp img-2

The show had models having so much fun on the runway that the vibe instantly travelled across to all the viewers. It ended with the models enjoying the party and going off to sleep. We love ‘pero’ and feel that there is no other label that would make pajamas fashionable for the day.

  • Presenting: Street style for Fall/Winter spotted at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016

Presenting: Street style for Fall/Winter spotted at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016

The 26th edition of the India Fashion Week came to a close in the capital recently and there’s so much that happened at the 5-days extravaganza. It’s true that the biggest highlights of every fashion week are the designers and their collections that are sported on the runway by models, but hey, street style fashion plays an equally important role!

Spotted giving everyone major style inspirations were many bloggers, buyers, editors and fashion lovers at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016.  Bright colours, floral and geometric prints, fringes and oxford shoes were a few things that dominated the street fashion. Take a look at the best of street style spotted at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016.

Sneakers, loafers and oxford shoes paired with shift dresses, maxi dresses, shorts and skirts were a common sight on each day. Making it our personal favourite for autumn/winter 2015, this style is definitely here to stay.

    Inp img-1

    Inp img-2

While some women chose to rock the sneaker trend at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, we spotted many fashionistas flaunting the fringe trend with fringed bags, skirts and shorts.

     Inp img-3

Many trendy show goers also gave major wardrobe inspiration by wearing jumpsuits and overall’s.

    Inp img-4

Adding a twist to ethnic wear were many fashion forward ladies presenting sarees draped in unusual ways.

     Inp img-5 (1)

Not just women, we spotted many dapper dudes donning a fusion of Indian and western outfits, pairing dhotis and jodhpuri pants with blazers was a complete stand out!

     Inp img-6 (1)

Beards are still a huge trend amongst guys and they’re only getting with time. We spotted many  ‘Movember’ men flaunting their beards and suits in different prints and textures probably prepping themselves for the ‘no shave november’!

  • This dog has a request for all of us and its hard hitting!

This dog has a request for all of us and its hard hitting!

Hi, my name is courage. I look like a normal, happy and a healthy dog.

    Inp img-1

    But I’m not.

    Inp img-2

I am one of those unfortunate living beings who were born on the streets and never had a chance to have a nice and loving family. They say I might be around 1.5 years old but I’ve lost the count of days where I had to go from street to street looking for food or a mere scratch on the back.

Life for me was okay till the time a human car (on a fine day) didn’t spot me walking on the road without realising that the car has brakes (or maybe he did realise – that’s something I would never know).

Little did I know, that very moment would change my life forever. Yes, the car ran over my hind legs and the human inside it never looked back.

This is exactly how he left me on the road.

    Inp img-3

You guessed it right! Those are my hind legs and I don’t feel them anymore.

I suffered at one of the busiest junctions in New Delhi with my inability to walk. I even once fell into a drain only to realise that I can’t get out of it myself. But, there was a good human that spotted me and saw how miserable I was. He was an auto-rickshaw puller. The man did pull me out of the drain but again; the hustle-bustle around that junction didn’t allow my rear legs to drag the rest of my body to a safer place. There I was. Lying in the corner for 8 days straight. Some did try and threw leftover food at me and I somehow didn’t die (though there wasn’t any reason for me to live).

    Inp img-4

    Here I am now.

    Inp img-5

I do agree, not all of them are bad. There was this human who saw me fighting for life on the road side and took me somewhere in his car (though I hated the fact that I was in one). I hate cars. I’m sure you guys have figured that out by now. But strangely, I still don’t hate humans. Every time one approaches me, with my gleaming eyes I try to wag my tail with happiness but unfortunately I can’t feel my tail either.

I now live at a beautiful shelter with many other dogs (some of them are just like me) and a beautiful lady who took me in and cares for me.

    Inp img-6

I have a humble request for whoever’s reading this post. If you drive a car, please make sure that you apply brakes when you see one of us in the middle of the road. It’ll only delay your ride by 15 seconds but it will cost us our lives or put us in terrible pain for the rest of it. Give me a home? Somebody? I promise I’d love you forever!

    Inp img-7

So that’s my story. I’m a fighter. And I hope for a better tomorrow not just for me, but many others like me.

  • This is how Skrillex had New Delhi on its toes last night!

This is how Skrillex had New Delhi on its toes last night!

Everybody craves for a great weekend, right from Friday morning to the end of the night on Sunday (and sometimes later than that too) knowing that Monday is going to give us hell. Well, the Indian capital got what it asked for, an insane end to the weekend with Skrillex in New Delhi! From the day Vh1 Supersonic announced that the dubstep sensation will be performing in India, for the first time, people had their Sunday plans cleared out. Soon enough, online tickets were sold out and so were at the venue. The concert was such a big success that it got a little hard for authorities to control the situation. So much so, that Nikhil Chinappa had to address the ‘dance family’ (the audience) to maintain decorum stating that Skrillex wouldn’t perform if they didn’t obey the rules.

    skrillex in new delhi

Mija, who has been touring with Skrillex, played the opening set. What Mija had for us was love and great music that left us wanting more good vibes, and they came along  when Skrillex made his entrance. A good artist is the one who communicates with his fans and Skrillex didn’t hold back! The love he had for Delhi was given back to him by the fans in an overwhelming way. Skrillex’s maddening set started with ‘Where Are Ü Now’ from his music group, Jack Ü with Diplo. His set had New Delhi on its toes giving no time to anyone to stop from jumping or head-banging to the crazy tunes he threw at us. All in all, Skrillex’s concert is going to be one of the best from 2015 and as Supersonics’ Facebook post says that his India tour is going down in history. We hope to see Skrillex in New Delhi soon again, for we’ll never get enough of his music!

  • 7 really unusual animals you can pet in India

7 really unusual animals you can pet in India

In a place where 1.2 billion people live, there are numerous amounts of pet lovers. Some people are happy with one pet; some people have their own family of pets. And then there are some, who would have one pet but it won’t be a dog, a cat or not even a fish. For those rare kinds of people, their pet has to be unusual, just to match with the owner’s personality, you see. And no, even parrots don’t count. Now, if you want a pet and are looking for options other than the usual, we have got a few for you right here. Take a look at this list of unusual pets you can pet in India.

    #1 Chameleon

Chameleon is just another lizard but one that grows into a pretty big creature with time. It’s slow and probably will never hurt you, well, as long as it’s being fed. But, we all know the coolest part about this beautiful creature, it changes its skin colour, you see no racism there! Hah!  Also, Jackson’s Chameleon, which is also known as the three horned chameleon is way too cool. Just a suggestion!

     sb1o1q0GG0f5KSource

    #2 Snakes

This reptile is not for the faint hearted, even if not poisonous, snakes are not that easy to deal with. Snake charmers are a completely different thing they pet king cobras but they make sure to remove their venom glands which usually results in their death sooner or later. If you want to pet a snake, make sure it’s not poisonous (we had to say it). You can always go for a rat snake, banded racer, green tree vine, etc.

    #3 Spider

Yep, people love these little sometimes-creepy-sometimes-not eight legged creatures. Basically, if petting a spider, people opt for Tarantulas. Mind you, Tarantulas are not for beginners, it takes time to learn to deal with this tiny yet dangerous reptile. They’re poisonous and can do pretty bad harm, but then again, it depends how good of tarantula owner are you.

     tumblr_me2v4aQoKW1qfganko1_400Source

    #4 Iguana

Another type of lizard that has been in demand as pets for a long time now and why not, they are pretty cool lizards. Getting yourself a pet Iguana means you’ll have to shed some weight from your wallet. They need a habitat, a very large one, even to adjust in a new home.  They grow up to be pretty massive and it takes a lot of patience and knowledge to deal with them. If you’re good with all that, go ahead get one home!

     iguana-fart-oSource

    #5 Rodents

Not the basic white rats or guinea pigs, we are talking something like, chinchilla, flying squirrel and more. They are little, cute and their care won’t cost you much. Easy to say, they’re safe and nice pets. Also, the only time they might cause you trouble is when you let them go free in the house. But that’s manageable.

     4891-Flying-SquirrelSource

    #6 Insects

Butterflies, praying mantis, ladybirds etc. are your options if you aren’t grossed out by them. All it takes is a little glass case where they can stay. They are low-maintenance, so it’s not a problem to take care of them. They’re different, that’s what makes them cool.

     tumblr_n6lus3Gucy1ttw2plo1_400Source

    #7 Tortoise

Tortoise and turtles are different but still very similar to each other. It takes a while for almost all of us to tell if that’s a turtle or a tortoise and some of us still can’t get it right. But as a pet you cannot get a turtle, apparently, they’re a protected species. But Tortoise can be found easily at almost any fish/ aquarium store. They don’t cost much and are very chilled out.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wipes hands immediately after meeting PM Narendra Modi! Not cool!

Yes, you read it right. Apparently the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was captured wiping his hands right after shaking them with our beloved PM Narendra Modi! As true Indians, we are a bit outraged but hold on; let’s just give the guy some benefit of doubt, maybe… just MAYBE he’s a germaphobe and does that every time he shakes hands with people around?

But the question is how often do you get to shake your hands with the Prime Minister of a nation that represents the population of more than a billion?

C’mon man! The hand wipe could have waited. Take a look at this video by Semil Carlos to see what we’re talking about. (A word of advice: try not to go on an anger streak after watching it. It’s a weird world out there and everyone’s different).

Paper by Honda is going to be your favourite ad after you’re done watching it!

Honda is a really big name if you’re talking more than just cars. It has been in the business since 1946 and is striving further with time. Honda has created almost everything it has dreamt of keeping true to their tagline “The Power of Dreams”. It started with two wheelers and today the brand has built cars, robots, aircrafts, engines and what not. Honda has taken technology far ahead, continuing to innovate and surprising its competitors and the rest of the world.
