How to get rid of dark circles

No matter what you do, those pesky bags keep popping up – uninvited! We know for a fact that many of you have experienced dark circles under your eyes. They don’t only make you look lethargic and ill but are even harder to get rid of. There are many factors that cause this skin discolouration, some of which are unavoidable such as age or illness. However, there are many ways to prevent them. If you are tired of looking tired, read on to identify what could be causing these dark circles and how to get rid of them!

    1) Treat your allergies

Discolouration of skin under the eyes is commonly caused by allergies and the only solution to get rid of dark circles is to find out the reasons behind the allergies and removing the allergen. If you are struggling to work out the root of your problem, don’t hesitate to get an appointment with a dermatologist to access what could be causing your allergic reaction. Seasonal allergy problems such as the hay fever can frequently be effectively treated with over-the-counter and prescribed medication.

    2) Invest in a good eye cream

Selecting an eye cream can be confusing especially when there are so many options to choose from. Avoid creams containing a lot of harsh chemicals and look for products which contain retinol and vitamin K because these two magical ingredients have been proven to reduce dark circles considerably. Creams containing them reduce puffiness and discolouration significantly. Please note that their effects can only be noticed in the long term.

    3) Reduce salt intake

Excessive salt causes the body to retain water in unusual places and this can result in puffiness under the eyes. Too much salt can also cause the blood vessels under the skin to appear bluer and you may suffer from fluid retention which is a major cause of dark circles under the eyes. Eat a good range of fruit and vegetables, stick to the freshest you can find and try cutting down on raw salt from your diet. Also, drink a lot of water; It is the simplest and best way to get overall good health and appearance. Vitamin deficiencies play havoc with our skin and dark circles can be caused by a lack of vitamin K or B12, so less salt and more  water.

    4) De-stress yourself

Stress is also one of the reasons for the reappearance of dark circles. Knock off all the sources of stress and anxiety that are preventing you from sleeping, eating and resting properly. Yoga or meditation, if practiced regularly, also helps in calming your mind, body and soul. Pick up any activity to soothe your mind and choose anything you want to do like reading, cooking, dancing or working out. Relaxing enough will help the skin beneath your eyes to improve as you feel less stressed and more at ease.

    5) Homemade spa treatment

Spare some time for your eyes in the morning before getting ready. Cut cucumber slices or soak green tea bags in water, cool it down by placing it in the refrigerator for a while and place them over your eyes. The tannin in tea reduces discolouration, and the cucumber reduces puffiness.  Use this remedy on a regular basis to see considerable difference.

    6) Get your beauty sleep

Last but certainly not the least, get a sound and good night sleep, daily. It’s not entirely clear why inadequate sleep results in dark circles under the eyes but lack of sleep tends to cause the skin to become pale which results in appearance of darkness under the eyes. It’s also believed that lying down on the bed for less time is a cause in itself. So, it is advisable to take minimum 8 hours sleep everyday. Also, remove all your makeup before going to bed. Insufficient sleep causes your eyes look tired and puffier.

  • Six reasons that make Pushkar the perfect weekend getaway

Six reasons that make Pushkar the perfect weekend getaway

Pushkar, also known as “The Lotus Flower”, is a 2000 years old city in India making it one of the oldest cities of the country. Mostly known for being one of the five sacred pilgrimage sites of Hindu devotees, Pushkar is a perfect getaway destination, not just for people from India but also from outside.

Pushkar is a small town near Ajmer in Rajasthan and the best part about the city is that it has no railway stations. To get to Pushkar, you need to cross Ajmer city and the drive to Pushkar is magnificent. Pushkar is one of those cities that has retained its cultural charm by all means and has a lot to offer. Take a look at this list of places to visit in Pushkar and you’ll know what we are talking about.

    1) The Brahma Temple

Pushkar is known to house the only Brahma temple in the world making it a very important pilgrimage spot for many Hindus/Brahma devotees. It is believed that Lord Brahma dropped a lotus flower in a lake (the Pushkar Lake) and the lake turned into a city, the Pushkar city.

    2) The largest Camel Fair in the world

Pushkar hosts the largest camel fair in the world in the month of Novemeber. This fair witnesses the presence of almost 50,000 camels with many of camel farmers, gypsies and musicians from deeper regions of Rajasthan and more than 200,000 global travellers. This is one the largest exchanges of livestock in the world and makes for the best time to visit the city to experience the best its culture has to offer.

    3) Halwai Gali, rooftop restaurants and the “special” lassi

In spite of being a small and deserted town, Pushkar offers a variety of vegetarian food that can beat many non-vegetarian cuisines. The town refrains from offering alcoholic beverages but serves a rather rare substitute for alcohol called the special lassi (a term for bhang lassi). From the many places to visit in Pushkar, you must go to the “Halwai Gali” and try the malpuha and gulkand it has to offer. Pushkar also has over 250 hotels and many rooftop restaurants to get the perfect view of the city and the ghats.

    4) Desert Safari

Another one of the many things to do and places to visit in Pushkar is the desert safari. A large part of Rajasthan is covered in the Thar Desert and Pushkar is a part of it. It is also popularly referred to as the first desert city of Thar. On your visit to Pushkar, you must go for the Desert Safari that is normally 24-36 hours long. Along with the sand dunes, you’ll come across many local villages and their traditions especially rural weddings that have the charm to sweep you off your feet.

    5) The Pushkar Lake

The Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 350 temples and 52 Ghats and offers you a chance to witness an infinite number of ritual offerings every day. If you’re a fan of watching sunsets, head to the ghats to enjoy a lake-view sunset along with the sound of the soothing evening aarti (prayer).

    6) The Ajmer Sharif

Just like the Brahma Temple, The Ajmer Sharif is a prime religious place for the Muslim community. It is the shrine of the famous Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti and is located 40 kilometers from Pushkar in the Ajmer City. If you visit Pushkar, there is no reason for you to not visit The Ajmer Sharif.

Moinuddin Chishti is worshipped for spreading a simple yet powerful message that there is no God; ” One call him Allah another call him God, but they’re one and only one”.

The most fascinating part of The Ajmer Sharif is the fact that both Hindu and Islamic devotees seek blessings at this religious place and it reflects the diversity that India holds.

  • Outfit of the week

    Outfit of the week

Even though its fall, the weather is just not cold enough to be wrapped up in thermals and jackets. In such a scenario, your summer ensembles might come in handy, regardless of the season.

If you’re still confused about the style quotient to follow this week our outfit of the week might serve as the perfect inspiration to you. Look chic and stylish this week by pairing a shirt with a midi skirt. Midi skirts have been in fashion for a while and the best part about them is their versatility that caters to both casual and formal wear.

Midi skirts are available in different patterns and lengths, but we would suggest you to go for a striped or a plain midi skirt teamed with a subtle shade of pink or white on the top.

You can complete this semi-formal look with a trench coat to avoid windy evenings and a pair of high heels. Accessorise your look with an elegant neck piece and minimal make up using different shades of brown and bronze to set the winter mood and step out looking like a runway model.

  • Unusual ways to spend your time online

Unusual ways to spend your time online

In recent years the internet has seen usage like never before, with more and more people getting online each year. In fact, a recent UN survey suggested more than three billion people across the world now have internet access.

It stands to reason if you’re reading this then the internet is probably a big part of your everyday life, whether you use it for work or leisure, or even just for staying in touch with family and friends.

But are you making the most of your time online? Many people do not take advantage of the full array of sites on offer, sticking to comfort zones such as Twitter or Facebook.

So, with this in mind, we have put together a list of ways you can maximise your time online. Some are interesting, some are just silly, but they’re all worth a look.

    #1 Egosurf

More commonly known as ‘Googling yourself’. Type your name into Google and everybody’s favourite search engine will instantly bring up a list of everything related to your name. Sure, it might not be all about you, but it’s always fun to see what the other John Smith of Sydney, Australia is doing lately.

    #2 Learn how to cook/bake

Cooking and baking has always had a home online but recently it has seen a surge in popularity thanks to social media apps like Snapchat, and YouTube, with channels like Sorted Food and Tastemade gathering a huge following. So, instead of just talking about that moussaka you want to make, go ahead and do it!

    #3 Research your genealogy

You’ve always talked about finding out if you’re related to royalty, and now the internet has made it easier than ever, with sites like Ancestry.co.uk and FindMyPast just a click away.

    #4 Place a bet

Thanks to the internet and smartphone apps, online betting is easier than it has ever been. Whatever your game is, whether it be football, tennis or horse racing, you can try your luck at any number of online bookmakers, with many even offering an introductory free bet.

    #5 Test your emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence is your capacity to be aware of, control, and express your emotions, as well as how empathetic you are in friendships and relationships. It may not be something you have thought about before, but it’s certainly an interesting thing to discover, and it’s easy to do with this free quiz.

#6 Find out the Bacon number of your favourite celebrity

This one may fall into the ‘silly’ category, but it’s still a novel little hidden feature of Google. A play on the idea of six degrees of separation, or the idea everyone in the world is connected by no more than six acquaintances or links, a celebrity’s Bacon number indicates how many degrees they are from actor Kevin Bacon.

For example, Brad Pitt and Kevin Bacon appeared in the movie Sleepers, which makes Brad’s number 1. To find out, simply google the celebrity’s name followed by ‘Bacon number’. Pointless, but fun!

  • Top Twitter trends of 2015 and what they were all about!

Top Twitter trends of 2015 and what they were all about!

There’s a lot that happened in 2015 across the globe. Some events were so unfortunate that they ended up harming the lives of many and some made us feel grateful about the fact that the world is just a small community of people who are constantly on a look out for each other.

The common thread between the events is that they brought people together, not just from different cities but from many nations and all we have to thank is the power of social media and hashtags.

Let us now take a recap into the year and the top Twitter trends of 2015 that caught the attention of the Indian audience and what they were all about.

    1. #JeSuisCharlie

Je Suis Charlie, the French phrase for ‘I am Charlie’ was an unfortunate event that took place in early January 2015 in Paris and the world is still recovering from it. The mishap involved a massacre of twelve people at the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s offices.

    2. #AIBRoast

Talking about roasts, All India Bakchod released their roast on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in late January 2015 and boy, it was big (no pun intended). With Karan Johar as the roast master, the AIB knockout garnered innumerable views on YouTube before it got involved into many controversies and was eventually taken down from the site. For those who didn’t get an opportunity to watch it, you have no idea what you’ve missed.

    3. #TheDress

A dress photo that went viral in February 2015 with over ten million tweets gave us sleepless nights all because of its colours that varied from one eye to another. ‘The dress’ divided the people of the world into two halves, with the first half seeing its colours as white & gold and the other half of the human population perceiving it to be as black & blue. The real colours of the dress are still a mystery to us and we’d be happy to be a part of the much-awaited reality.

    4. #BieberRoast

The Comedy Central roast of singer Justin Bieber took place in March 2015 and gave the world a good laugh all at his expense. The roast made headlines while giving birth to one of the biggest Twitter trends of the year involving celebrities like Kevin Hart, Ludacris, Martha Stewart, Shaquille O’Neal among others. We bet none of us missed that!

    5. #DadBod

Gone are the days when women used to drool over ripped men with abs and a balanced diet. Spending all those hours at the gym while checking out every chiseled muscle in front of the mirror is just passé. What’s new is the DadBod, appreciation for those extra kilos, which started trending with the hashtag #Dadbod. It was an Internet sensation where women expressed their love for flabby men. The point here to be noted here is that dadbod is NOT about fat men, it’s about those guys who perhaps were really fit once and have been taking it easy for a bit. Afterall, those few slices of pizza with beer never killed anybody!

    6. #LoveWins

American Supreme court’s ruling on marriage equality gave the world a new hope and a beautiful reason to celebrate. The hashtag ‘Lovewins’ was a part of millions of tweets across America and around the world. The best part about the social media outburst was the fact that (reportedly) Twitter too added a small rainbow heart next to #LoveWins with every user’s tweet.

    8. #IStandWithAhmed

Ahmed Mohamed is a 14-year-old kid from Texas who built a clock from a pencil case so he could impress his teachers. Little did he know that there was massive trouble coming his way when the teachers called the cops on him. The authorities at the Irving High School thought that the 14 year-old made a ‘hoax bomb’ and got it to school. Ahmed was handcuffed and taken to the police station where he was denied the right to make a call to his parents and was questioned without his attorney’s presence. The issue got so out of control that some big, we mean, BIG names came to Ahmed’s rescue. President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg amongst others made a genuine effort for his case!

    10. #PrayForParis

The evening of 13th November will always be remembered as one of the most dreaded days of 2015. The series of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in France did not just include hostage-taking but mass shootings and suicide bombings as well. Many innocent people suffered the darkness of terrorism for reasons everyone is trying to fathom. People were killed, faith was shattered and around midnight emerged the ‘Peace For Paris’ symbol sending out a strong message to the heartless that the world is united and will fight back.

  • Champagne is great, not just for your mood but skin and hair too! Let’s stock some more.

Champagne is great, not just for your mood but skin and hair too! Let’s stock some more.

Every celebration remains incomplete without popping a sizzling bottle of champagne. But did you know that champagne can improve your skin and hair and you can get beauty benefits from that bottle of bubbly?

We recently learned that champagne can help in weight loss (yes, you read that right) and improves your memory which gives all champagne-lovers another reason to have it but there are few other benefits of champagne that include gorgeous skin and shiny hair. Take a look at these beauty benefits of champagne.

    1. Use champagne for smooth and silky hair

Mix one part champagne with equal amount of warm water in a bottle and spray the mixture evenly on your hair after shampooing and conditioning. Leave it for some time to soak in while you get ready and then style your hair as you normally do. This hair treatment is an excellent way to keep your hair healthy and will make it look and smell good. Champagne is an amazing hair rinse and also acts as a volume booster for your hair.

    2. Get glowing skin with champagne

Another one of many beauty benefits of champagne is that it helps you get glowing skin. Champagne makes for a great skin toner because it contains grapes which are a good source of antioxidants and also carries Vitamin C and E. It brightens up your skin and is smoother than store-boughtproducts. Dilute one part of champagne with one part water, soak a cotton pad into the mixture and wipe across freshly washed face and neck. Make sure to do this once or twice a week because alcohol tends to dry skin out. Don’t forget to moisturise your face afterwards for great results. You can also create a purifying facial mask by adding champagne to a bit of clay. This can make life easier for people with oily skin.

    3. Make a bubble bath from your bubbly while you sip it

Champagne can make a wonderful exfoliating bubble bath because the carbon dioxide bubbles help in slopping off all your dead skin and exfoliate dry winter skin. Mix it with a little bit of bath gel and you have a perfect spa at home. Now it’s time to hop into your bath tub, relax in your bubble bath and see your dry dull skin getting exfoliated while you sip on to a glass of bubbly.

Now that you’ve discovered so many beauty benefits of champagne, you will need to save more money to stock up more champagne not just for drinking. Cheers!
