Stop committing these 10 fashion crimes that are making you undateable!

Wondering why she’ll date your best friend but not be seen dead with you? If you are committing one of these 10 fashion crimes then you better stop, if you really want to take her out!

    1. Ditch that sandals-with-socks look!

Yes, it was a fad once in the 90s but it is as jaded now as the places your parents went to as teenagers! If you want to make a first good impression, lose those socks with the sandals. Better still, lose those sandals for good!

    2. Revealing too much with your low-cut tees?

You think you’re John Abraham? Or Ryan Gosling? IF and only IF you are – Sure go ahead. Otherwise, button up brother.

    3. That slogan on your t-shirt, seriously?

Walking around with a funny slogan on your tee? Chances are she’s not even looking at your face! That’s right! She has already rejected you in the head thanks to that banal print on your tee.

    4. Bling ain’t for blokes!

Wait, what’s that shimmery thing on your waist? Is that a buckle? DAMN MY EYES!!! On second thoughts, you might remind her of Emma Watson from ‘The Bling Ring’.

    5. Extra-tight pants

Ouu la la…look at those curvy legs…OMG is that a guy?

    6. Extremely low-waist jeans

Hey, nice underwear. Just make sure you don’t stick it out in my face every time you walk by me!

    7. Sunglasses on a cloudy day? Really?

Do not, DO NOT, wear sunglasses to a date on a cloudy day, or even an indoor date! (Yes, some of you out there are guilty of that crime!) The only thought in her head is, ‘What the hell is he trying to hide under those shades? A purple eye maybe?!’

    8. Badly-fitted shirts

We all understand that being comfortable with your bod is the best fashion advice that was ever offered. But, if your shirt tells tales of your beer drinking capacity then you might want to get a bigger size, especially when you’re trying to sweep someone off her feet.

    9. Creepy hairdo

Agreed that hair is the ultimate styling accessory for men, Not that we are trying to encourage you to try other accessories, NO! But getting it right is what you should focus on. Coloured hair, hair with too much product, Mohawks, afros … you get the point.. are a big fat NO! Keep it simple and neatly styled, that’s all the ladies want!

    10. Fake brands

You should not carry anything fake to a date, fake clothes, fake shoes, fake belts, fake accents or a fake attitude. If she spots you with a fake brand she is going to get a fake something-bad-happened call and get the hell out of there!

  • 7 Beauty Lessons from Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

7 Beauty Lessons from Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

From barely- there makeup to a pop of ‘bright on the lips’, the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 had it all. Playing it safe is not the only make-up option next spring! We get you a roundup of the make-up essentials you need as seen at #WIFW.

Barely-there makeup is always a spring favourite and the runway took to this trend. Most designers preferred their models walking down the ramp with almost no makeup on, keeping things perfect for summer.

Go bare with the makeup but keep in mind that spring is all about colours. Designers Nida Mahmood and Payal Pratap added a bright pop of colours on the lips. Come spring and you will have to reconsider coral and red for the lips. Add a touch of smokiness to your eyes to brave the spring look. You can add a subtle nuance of black like Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh’s lineup of models or go smokey all the way like Rabani and Rakha’s models.

If you’re not a fan of heavy eye make-up then go graphic by adding a lower water line. Apply the colour of your outfit only to you lower eyelid like Designers Wendell Rodricks and Masaba Gupta. The flushed summer skin with minimal lip colour should be your beauty baseline come summer. Designers Shivan and Narresh had their models walk the catwalk with the fresh-out-of-the-water look and designers Hemant and Nandita went for the fresh summer face.

Go traditional and add a bindi to your outfit and red lip colour when you dress ethnic. Designer Chhaya Mehrotra’s line complemented this look perfectly. The best summer accessory is eye-wear. If you need inspiration for the kind of eyewear to go for, turn to line ups by designers Hemant and Nandita, Shivan and Narresh and Saaj by Ankita.

5 TV shows that make us comfy with queer in our living rooms

The American television network has been playing an important role in bringing the ‘different’ into our living rooms. That’s right, getting the audience accustomed to television series inspired by homosexuality has taken the front seat.

‘Will and Grace’, ‘Glee’, ‘Modern Family’, ‘Pretty Little Liars’ and ‘Orange Is The New Black’ are a few television series that have something in common – the Queer factor. These 5 tele-series made the unusual seem normal.

    TV Shows with gay interest

‘Will & Grace’ in 1998 was the first prime-time sitcom starring homosexual lead characters  in New York City.

A decade later, Glee, a musical comedy showcased the plight of a high school student trying to get out of the closet, facing initial resentment from his peers.

In the same year, Modern Family kicked off making Cam and Mitch one of the most admired on-TV gay couples. The show also introduced the idea of a gay couple adopting a kid and being regular parents like any other straight couple.

    5-TV-Show

One year later, making teenagers comfortable with the idea of queer was the teenage drama series ‘Pretty Little Liars’. The series made headlines for displaying one of the lead characters, Emily’s, relationships with her girlfriends Maya and Paige.

One of the most talked about series of 2013 ‘Orange Is The New Black’ sheds light on the post-breakup relationship of two girlfriends who land up in prison. As unexplored as the idea may be, the series conquered the hearts of viewers with its touching portrayal of true emotions.

  • Huma Qureshi: On breaking stereotypes in Bollywood

Huma Qureshi: On breaking stereotypes in Bollywood

Actress Huma Qureshi doesn’t believe in playing it safe and admits that her gamble to debut in Bollywood with a supporting role paid off. She also acknowledges that it’s not the genre of a film that matters as much as its substance. Here are more excerpts from her interview with Trendspotters.TV:

Huma Qureshi: It could be a horror flick, it could be movie where I play a robust Punjabi like you said, it could be like a coal mafia’s girlfriend-turned-wife or a RAW agent. As an actor what’s exciting for me is whenever an image about me gets formed, I have to break it. There was a time I think when people would say that either you can act or you can look pretty. Why can’t you do both?

Qureshi also believes in making her own rules and playing by them. And instead of playing it safe by debuting in a quintessential Bollywood pot-boiler, she chose to mark her entry into Tinsel Town with a supporting role in Anurag Kashyap’s 2012 two-part gangster saga ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.

Huma Qureshi: For some people a classic debut might work and for some people it might not. But off late there have been examples of a lot of people who have not made a classical debut and have made it into the so-called mainstream. I think it’s a trend. The audience has seen the quintessential hero-heroine thing…if the audience connects with the character’s story…that’s what really matters.

Even though the gamble paid-off, Huma was in for a shock when she was first handed the script of the film…Here’s why:

Huma Qureshi: I had signed the movie and they gave me the script to read and I was like “but I am not in the movie at all!”… It’s a six-hour movie and I am there for like 25 minutes. No, I did not know what would become of me. Yes, I knew that it would be something very, very interesting that I was going to be a part of…it’s not something that’s been done before…it was something that’s going to be memorable…How successful it was going to be, I had no idea. The idea of my character was to make fun of the way women are portrayed in cinema. They are supposed to be these bimbos. How we sort of style our hair, act out our fantasies in reality as well.

The film was critically acclaimed when it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Director’s Fortnight Section that year and also received rave reviews from Indian critics upon its release.

Huma Qureshi: The first time I saw the film was at Cannes. That’s when it really sunk in because there I felt like a midget really. A lot of people from the industry called and it was written about which was humbling. When I saw the first hoarding in Bombay I was like “was I really a part of it?!”

While the post-production of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was in progress, Huma got the offer to play the female lead in Sameer Sharma’s ‘Luv Shav Tey Chicken Khurana’.

Huma Qureshi: Anurag Kashyap showed what he had shot to a lot of friends. They were looking for a girl for ‘Luv Shuv’. I get a call from Sameer Sharma. He said, “Would you do this film?” But I was like, “Can I read the script?” Full credit goes to Sameer Sharma and Sumit Bhatheja. What we managed to capture with it was the simplicity of a Punjabi girl. She helps this stupid boyfriend. I would probably be like, “Get out of my life!”

2013 saw her being a part of out-and-out commercial flicks like ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ and ‘D-Day’. Huma confesses that these were not conscious decisions but also adds that she doesn’t want to be typecast as an actress.

Huma Qureshi: When you are starting out as an actor you don’t have the freedom to do that and that. It doesn’t work like that…my favourite analogy for an actor is that we are daily wage labourers! We wait to get employed. There are certain kind of stories that I gravitate towards which are interesting, which are new, which have something different to offer. But I don’t think of myself as an actor in terms of genre. I want to play different roles…that’s what I gravitate towards.
