  • Get your Diwali fashion fix with this week’s outfit of the week

Get your Diwali fashion fix with this week’s outfit of the week

Diwali is around the corner and we believe dressing the part is just as important as all the other rituals. So if you’re looking for Diwali outfit inspiration, we have something for you. Give the usual salwar kameez a skip and try out the hottest trend of the season – Dhoti pants.

Dhoti pants have been named after ‘Dhoti’, a traditional garment worn by men in India. But with change in style and fashion preferences, this garment has been adopted by women in an ethnic fusion form. A popular choice amongst many celebrities, designers and stylists, Dhoti pants make for a great change from the usual salwars and churidars. And if you are confused about styling it the right way, take inspiration from Bollywood’s very own fashionista, Sonam Kapoor.

    Inp-1

Our suggestion for making Dhoti pants a successful Diwali outfit will be to pair the pants with a well-tailored top that balances out the volume at the bottom. These pants look their best in brighter colours so go ahead and experiment; however ensure that the top is of a neutral/earthy shade. Do remember to add some bling with big earrings and other accessories. We’d recommend minimal makeup but feel free to adjust it according to the occasion and your preference.

Not just tailored-tops Dhoti pants look great with tunics, crop tops and maxi tops.

  • Here’s your guide to looking stylish effortlessly ALL THE TIME!

Here’s your guide to looking stylish effortlessly ALL THE TIME!

We all have those days when putting together an outfit turns into the toughest task. Not because we don’t have enough pieces (old and new) in our wardrobes, but because the brain just can’t figure the perfect ensemble that day. For all those days and others too, here’s the perfect guide to looking stylish effortlessly and all the time. Fashion blogger Carly Cristman and celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese share their favourite tricks to looking fashionable and stylish by pairing things that are already kept in your wardrobe. Take a look.

    #1) Get the right proportions

Both Carly Cristman and Lindsay Albanese suggest that even when you’re pairing a simple top with a pair of jeans, wearing them in the right proportion is the key to making it stand out and looking stylish. For instance if you’re wearing a boxy top, ensure that it is worn with something fitted.

    proportions

    #2) Lindsay’s Hip Tip

When wearing a simple outfit like a T-shirt paired with shorts, tuck the T-shirt into your shorts partially (called the Lindsay’s Hip Tip) to add an extra stylish detail. It defines your waistline and adds a personal touch to the outfit.

    Lindsay's Hip Tip

    #3) Monochromatic

The ultimate guide to looking stylish even when you’re stressed is to go for monochrome. Pick one colour, black for example and go all black. The point here to keep in mind is pairing different hues of the same colour.

    monochromatic

    #4) Accessorize

Accessories always up the style factor and there’s no reason one should shy away from them. Add a chunky choker neck piece to a plain dress or a dainty pendant to an outfit to put together a finished look.

     Accessorize

    #5) Know your favourites

It is always best to know about your favourite pieces in your wardrobe for those days when you just can’t fix yourself on one outfit. Best advice is to keep staple garments like a pair of blue denims, a little black dress and the perfect white shirt handy at all times to avoid confusion.

  • How to wear culottes

    How to wear culottes

Culottes have been around since forever and were originally worn by men in the 15th century. They were a hit amongst kings to soldiers to upper class European men and used to have a tight closure around the knee. With time, culottes evolved and grew into loose bifurcated skirts that end below the knees worn mostly by women. Culottes are great for all weathers and are as important a wardrobe staple as denims today. They are comfortable, chic and versatile. The question is how to wear culottes?

It’s not as hard as one would imagine. Culottes have flattering hemlines and various shapes that look good on every body type. Styling these pants can be tricky, but the good part is that there is more than one way to fashion these billowy pants. So whether you’re wearing your culottes on a date, out for brunch on the weekend, or to work, they can fit right in with these small tricks. Here’s how to wear culottes and flaunt this season’s “it” statement.

    PicMonkey CollageSource: Pinterest

For a formal-chic look we’d suggest you go for solid culottes paired with a printed semi-formal top and a pair of strappy heels. For a summery look, wear light coloured or striped culottes with printed or plain crop-tops and pretty flats.

A pair of printed culottes make a big statement on it’s own. Keep the rest of the outfit simple with solid-coloured tee or tank tops.

Men’s fashion 102: colour of the season – military green

Making a comeback from last year’s runway is the colour of this season, military green. Associated with masculinity, this colour is all set to complement the vibrant and deeper shades of your wardrobe. Versatile and a whole lot more surprising, military green is an easy to wear colour for any age regardless of your style. From bloggers to celebrities almost everyone seems to be obsessed with this hue. Whether you go for classic olive, camouflage or military green, it is one wardrobe staple you must own.

Best part about this hit shade is that it can be worn just like any other neutral colour and is easy to team up with different shades.

Here’s how you can incorporate this colour to enhance your style quotient this fall.

    1) Head-to-toe green

If you love green and are confident enough to embrace the head-to-toe look, you can pair different shades of darker and lighter green and get a subtle look. To complete the polished look, opt for bold colour accessories like belts.

    2) Go monochrome

The easiest way to pull off this colour of the season is by mixing one standout item with your basics. Military green pairs very well with black and grey. Team a black shirt with green chinos for a formal yet classy look. Finish the look with leather shoes or boots.
