A picture of Deepika Padukone and Vin Diesel surfaced in December 2015 and needless to say speculation of her acting in the Fast & Furious franchise began. While nothing was confirmed by Deepika herself, many rumours made rounds until Twitter came to rescue.

Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif’s upcoming movie ‘Fitoor’ has been making headlines ever since its trailer came out and now there’s more adding to the anticipation. Fitoor’s first song video ‘Yeh Fitoor Mera’ was launched recently and can we just say “deep breaths everyone”?

Amit Trivedi has done an amazing job on the music so far and lending his voice to Aditya Roy Kapur’s character ‘Noor’ in the song is none other than Arijit Singh. It’s hard to imagine a song sung by Arijit Singh not doing well and if you add Kat and ARK to the visuals, you’ll see magic. Take a look at the video.

Netflix India: Is our country really ready for Netflix?

The US-based video streaming company Netflix launched its operations recently in India and we couldn’t be more excited!

Starting at Rs. 500 per month, Netflix India has framed its packages very similar to their American plans. Reportedly, Netflix India is also looking forward to getting on board with more Indian partners to diversify their collection for the Indian market; adding more Bollywood movies in their database.

But, what caught our attention in this whole Netflix India outburst were a few points that were directed to only one question: Is India really ready for Netflix?

Here’s why.

#1. Minus the metro cities in India, do tier II & tier III cites have enough bandwidth to stream HD TV shows and movies in their homes?

#2. Will the online piracy affect Netflix India’s operations? There are several websites that are already offering free online streaming of shows/movies (so we’ve heard).

#3. The fact that Netflix India is still in the process of tying up with its Indian partners, do we really have a large target audience that follows American TV series/movies?

Though, everything aside, we’re going to sign up with Netflix India right about now. We think it’s one of the coolest New Year presents we’ve received in 2016 so far! Thank you, Netflix.

Bollywood movies releasing in January 2016

From thriller to comedy to romance this month’s Bollywood releases have a lot in store for us. If your idea of a perfect weekend is sitting comfortably and munching popcorns in a movie theatre, this list is for you. Here’s everything you need to know about Bollywood movies releasing in January 2016.

1) Wazir – 8^th January

One of the most awaited movies of 2016, Wazir, is an action thriller starring Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar along with Aditi Rao Hydari and Neil Nitin Mukesh. The movie is a tale of two friends who are poles apart in nature; one is a wheelchair-bound chess grandmaster and the other is a fearless Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) officer. Both are struck with grief and despair that unites them to help each other come out victorious in the biggest game of their lives. However, little do they know of their mysterious, strong opponent lurking in the shadows who is well prepared to checkmate them.

Run Time – 102 minutes

2) Chauranga – 8^th January

Chauranga is the debut feature film of Bikas Rajan Mishra and has won the best film award in many film festivals including the Indian film festival of Los Angeles. Inspired by a real life incident, the movie revolves around the journey of a fourteen year old boy, Santu who belongs to the untouchable caste of the Hindu hierarchy. The timid boy aspires to go to school just like his elder brother Bajaranji and is a son to an unmarried mother; a maid at the mansion of the upper cast village headman. Add Chauranga to your watch list to know how Santu’s dreams are crippled by the dark reality of caste hierarchy and how far his defiance fares him.

3) Chalk N Duster – 15^th January

Directed by Jayant Gilatar and produced by Amin Surani, Chalk N Duster is an upcoming film starring Shabana Azmi and Juhi Chawla and Divya Dutta. The movie is an emotional journey of two teachers who worship their profession and want the best for their students. It highlights the problems that teachers and students face due to corruption and never ending greed for money.

4) Airlift – 22^nd January

Khiladi Kumar is all geared up to rescue people from his helicopter this January in Airlift. Yes Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie starring Nimrat Kaur as the female lead is a thriller, based on the biggest evacuation of Indians living in Kuwait during the Iraq- Kuwait war in 1990. Akshay Kumar will be seen playing a wealthy NRI businessman in Kuwait who unknowingly becomes the man responsible for keeping 1,70,000 Indians safe.

Run Time – 122 minutes

5) Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 – 22^nd January

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 is a sequel to 2012’s Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum and is the third part of the Kyaa Kool Hain Hum series. Just like the previous series, this is also a sex comedy starring Tusshar Kapoor , Aftab Shivdasani and Mandana Karimi in the lead roles along with Gizele Thakral, Claudia Ciesla, Krishna Abhishek, Shakti Kapoor and Darshan Jariwala in supporting roles. The movie is all set to release on 22^nd January 2016.

Run Time – 131 minutes

6) Saala Khadoos – 29^th January

Saala Khadoos is an upcoming bilingual sports drama written and directed by Sudha Kongara starring the very talented R. Madhavan in the lead role as a boxing coach along with a new face Ritika Singh who is playing a young aspiring boxer. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil (Irudhi Suttru ) and is all set to release on 29^th January.

7) Mastizaade – 29^th January

Produced by Pritish Nandy and Rangita Nandy, Mastizaade is a sex comedy starring Sunny Leone in a dual role along with Tusshar Kapoor, Vir Das and Shaad Randhawa. Ritesh Deshmukh will also appear in a cameo role in the movie.

There’s a lot that happened in 2015 across the globe. Some events were so unfortunate that they ended up harming the lives of many and some made us feel grateful about the fact that the world is just a small community of people who are constantly on a look out for each other.

The common thread between the events is that they brought people together, not just from different cities but from many nations and all we have to thank is the power of social media and hashtags.

Je Suis Charlie, the French phrase for ‘I am Charlie’ was an unfortunate event that took place in early January 2015 in Paris and the world is still recovering from it. The mishap involved a massacre of twelve people at the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s offices.

Talking about roasts, All India Bakchod released their roast on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in late January 2015 and boy, it was big (no pun intended). With Karan Johar as the roast master, the AIB knockout garnered innumerable views on YouTube before it got involved into many controversies and was eventually taken down from the site. Gone are the days when women used to drool over ripped men with abs and a balanced diet. Spending all those hours at the gym while checking out every chiseled muscle in front of the mirror is just passé. What’s new is the DadBod, appreciation for those extra kilos, which started trending with the hashtag #Dadbod. It was an Internet sensation where women expressed their love for flabby men. The point here to be noted here is that dadbod is NOT about fat men, it’s about those guys who perhaps were really fit once and have been taking it easy for a bit. Afterall, those few slices of pizza with beer never killed anybody!

Ahmed Mohamed is a 14-year-old kid from Texas who built a clock from a pencil case so he could impress his teachers. Little did he know that there was massive trouble coming his way when the teachers called the cops on him. The authorities at the Irving High School thought that the 14 year-old made a ‘hoax bomb’ and got it to school. Ahmed was handcuffed and taken to the police station where he was denied the right to make a call to his parents and was questioned without his attorney’s presence. The issue got so out of control that some big, we mean, BIG names came to Ahmed’s rescue. President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg amongst others made a genuine effort for his case!

The series of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in France did not just include hostage-taking but mass shootings and suicide bombings as well. Many innocent people suffered the darkness of terrorism for reasons everyone is trying to fathom. People were killed, faith was shattered and around midnight emerged the ‘Peace For Paris’ symbol sending out a strong message to the heartless that the world is united and will fight back.

On The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, Indian celebrities Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were seen helping CNN spread awareness about modern slavery by shooting paper planes with a message written on them followed by a hashtag that read ‘Fly to Freedom’. CNN’s Freedom project is a humanitarian news media campaign that seeks to educate and advocate against modern slavery. The Diwale team too came together in support of the cause urging everyone to join the movement.

With two of the most awaited B-town releases of 2015 hitting the screens on the same day (18th December), it isn’t hard to fathom the massive rounds of promotions going on almost everywhere.
