  • PURNAM: An endeavour for a cause

PURNAM: An endeavour for a cause

PURNAM is a noble endeavour that started with an intention to encourage upcoming entrepreneurs from across India to come together and display their work on a large scale. A one-of-a-kind lifestyle exhibition, PURNAM was conceputalised by four volunteers of the NGO Akshay Pratishthan; Indu Gupta, Jani Dhingra, Sarita Baluja and Saroj Bhatia. We caught up with them recently and here are the excerpts from their interview:

An organisation started by four spirited workers of the NGO Akshay Pratishthan, PURNAM, encourages striving entrepreneurs from across the country to showcase their talent to a large pool of buyers.

Jani Dhingra: We four ladies, we’ve known each other for 20 years working as volunteers for Akshay Pratishthan and we started our own PURNAM since 2006. And we started by going to Ludhiana first to Punjab, Jalandhar and Chandigarh and then in Delhi also we were invited by the other NGos to do fundraising for them.

Sarita Baluja: PURNAM was conceptualised in 2006 driven by the objective of opening avenues for those willing to exhibit their product lines. We wanted to create a platform that optimises the talent from across the country within domestic geographies and also internationally. We got a chance to showcase indigenous talent abroad when we found a coordinator in Dubai, who wanted us to put up an exhibition here.

    purnam-picture1

Saroj Bhatia: We have been holding exhibitions during Raksha Bandhan for four years because entrepreneurs really want to display their product lines at that time of the year. Also, because of the festivities the products sell very well.

Indu Gupta: We’ve got this exhibition coming up on 16th December in Eros hotel in Nehru place, and we did one exhibition in July and we thought that winter is the right time to do an exhibition because lots of weddings and festivities go on in December and January, March so we are doing it in Eros hotel. We have got a lot of hope for the future; we are planning to do two exhibitions in Delhi and maybe one out of the country and one within the country.

  • Delhi v/s its neighbours – The untold reality!

Delhi v/s its neighbours – The untold reality!

Here’s a quick comparison between our beautiful capital city of New Delhi and its neighbours (Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Faridabad). Take a look at how the city’s new and upcoming neighbours are giving Delhi quite a run for its money when it comes to being our favourite city!

    1. Round the clock availability of alcohol

Be it a national holiday, festivals or just another lame dry day….alcohol availability is never a concern if you stay on the other side of the border!

    Alcohol

    2. Better looking houses at jaw dropping rates

We do agree that Delhi has bungalows that aren’t just massive but also breathtakingly beautiful, but what Gurgaon and Noida offer is something that is similar but way lighter on your pocket!

    Beautiful house

    3. Drive on any side of the road like a boss!

We don’t support that. At all! But you shall encounter a douche every now and then driving on the wrong side. And let’s admit it… There is a certain thrill to it!

    wrong lane1

    4. Better car-o-bar scenes

Another thing we aren’t supportive of! But still if you gotta do Car-o-bar, maybe you should try the NCR roads (or don’t try doing it at all).

    drunk driving

    5. Less traffic, open spaces and better places to eat

Some may agree with it, some won’t. But the imminent new NCR towns do have a lot of options when it comes to recreation, open spaces, sprawling residential areas, market places and parking areas!

    cleaner greener

    6. And open spaces that are greener than the capital

    No disputing this one!

    greener

    7. Better corporate offices with actual dedicated parking spaces not just for the bosses

Parking has always been a hassle in the capital especially for those who work here. But people working in those tall buildings in Gurgaon or Noida surely have a different story to tell.

    Car park

    8. Diverse culture as people from all over the country settle here.

Yes. Everyone settles here. The new skyscrapers in the satellite cities are being lapped up like hot cakes either by buyers or renters thanks to the lower rates. As a result, these towns are fast becoming exuberant melting pots of cultures.

    Unity

    9. And sometimes from the world over!

    Touché!

    world over

    10. Lesser rents, cheaper gym membership, cheaper veggies, cheaper salons… basically cheaper everything!

You settle in Faridabad and Ghaziabad and your cost of living goes down by a couple of notches in every way. Isn’t that awesome?

    save money

But wait! The NCR is what it is because of our beautiful capital and nothing beats Delhi! NOTHING! Ever spotted a historical monument or a heritage site across the Delhi border? The fancy museums and the vibrant cultural centers?! Delhi holds the heritage of our country together in ways no other city does!

  • New in the city – Fashion label ‘I.AM.ME’ by Akanksha Gupta

New in the city – Fashion label ‘I.AM.ME’ by Akanksha Gupta

Meet Akanksha Gupta, an architect-turned-designer who is set to launch her fashion label, I.AM.ME. The collection takes inspiration from the fact that every individual has a unique take on style. The label promises to enable every woman to embrace her innate flair for dressing with confidence and panache. Launching in December this year, I.AM.ME merchandise will be available at South Court Mall, Saket, New Delhi. Here are some excerpts from our conversation with the designer.

Former architect turned fashion designer Akanksha Gupta talks about her label ‘I.AM.ME’ and how it’s a confluence of her love for design, be it in architectural spaces or in fashion.

Akanksha Gupta: I’ve always been keen on designing, on designing everything that comes in my way and designing basically is a way of life for me. So I always wanted to combine different paradigms of design and see what all one field of design can offer to the other and how all of them can marry and how all of them can go together hand in hand.

Catering to a market that’s confident yet comfortable in its own skin, the designer believes that her collection cannot be stereotyped. It is simply an everyday celebration of a woman’s identity and personal style.

    I am me fashion

Akanksha Gupta: Each piece is unique by itself. Like every individual is unique by itself, like the attitude is so unique and the inherent style of everybody is unique; similarly each outfit from I.AM.ME is unique and we do not want to do copies of any of the styles.

I.AM.ME takes pride in offering an exceptional and inimitable way of turning a day dress into nightwear in less than a minute.

Reversible Dress - i am me
    The Reversible Dress

Akanksha Gupta: Right now the collection we will launch with will have a few ranges of sub collections if I could say, one of them being a reversible dress which is for those women who work hard and party harder. For those who go to office and then they go to party directly after office. So it’s a simple dress where in you go to office wearing a nice color which is soothing and when you are working it will put you in the frame there and when you want to go to a party right after that you just unzip it, reverse it and you are ready to go.

Launching in December this year, the brand promises to be a one stop destination that will capture the exuberance of a woman’s everyday life.

Akanksha Gupta: We will be launching through our first flagship store in South court mall, Saket. So around New Year we’ll launch our first flagship store with our first collection as well.
