Fashion rules every woman should follow at work
It’s very important to be impeccably dressed at work especially when you have a job that involves meeting clients on a regular basis. The normal dress code for work is professional and women generally tweak it a bit to suit their personal style which is great. However, sometimes we tend to cross that thin line between professionally fashionable to erm… just uncomfortably fashionable. Don’t know what we are talking about? Here is a list of fashions rules every woman should follow at work to keep her style in line with work ethics.
1) Understand your industry’s etiquettes
It’s imperative that you understand the kind of attire that’ll make you look professional in your own field; for instance a corporate lawyer would not like to dress as a fashion editor. But some simple rules apply everywhere for women. It’s best to avoid short hemlines, plunging necklines, exposed under garments, body hugging clothes and heels that are too tall. Work is not a place where you should be remembered for a deep cleavage or short dresses. Keep it simple and be a lady.
2) Get the right fit
Not just at work but otherwise too, women should always wear clothes that fit right. Wearing clothes that are too tight or too loose just reflect how comfortable you are in your conduct. If you are one of those lucky few who lose weight very easily, we recommend finding a good neighbourhood tailor and getting your clothes altered from time to time.
3) When in doubt, go for pumps
Footwear plays a very important role in dressing up for work. Sharp and clean footwear reflects a sharp personality and that’s the only one thing you need the most at work. If you’re ever confused about your footwear for work, go for pumps in black and nude but remember that sky-high pumps are not what you need at work. Go for heels that are maximum at 3.5 inches.
4) Wear the right accessories
Wear a watch, small earrings and maybe a delicate neckpiece if you are a jewellery-lover. Do not load up on accessories and make it look like you are about to topple over the weight of your jewels.
5) Hair
Although women have a lot of hairstyling options to work with, the one important thing to keep in mind is that they are cut well and clean. Never, we say never, go to work with wet hair and water dripping all over your clothes. If you don’t find time to dry your hair in the morning, let them air dry on your way to work and tie them up in a bun or a ponytail.
6) Makeup
When it comes to makeup at work, lesser is better. Avoid putting a heavy face on and dark lip colours, we’re at work not at a lipstick convention. Wear neutral shades of eyes, lips and nail colours and use a light foundation or concealer if you need coverage.
7) Act your age
You don’t want to be dressing up like your daughter at work or in general. Act your age and dress like it at work. Women need to be equally equipped to handle crisis at work during the day as well as having a glass of wine later for a work meeting. Understand that and dress your best.
8) Invest in timeless basics
Every woman must have a black dress, a well-tailored navy/black pinstripe suit, a crisp white shirt and a pair of black trousers. Wear any of these when in doubt, it saves you time and makes you look effortlessly chic.
Let us know if you have your own list of fashion rules every woman should follow at work in the comments section below. We’d love to know your views.
Men, do check out our list of fashion rules every man should follow at work to be at your professional best.

Fashion rules every man should follow at work
“The men of the world! You have the right to remain silent and read below!” The fashion police are here! You may be pretty confident about the way you dress at work (who isn’t?), but there are several other very important things every guy should keep in mind while dressing up for office!
Take a look at this crisp list of Fashion rules every man should follow at work!
1. Getting the right fit
Knowing the right size of the clothes you wear is extremely crucial. A slouchy ensemble or an over-fitted outfit is bound to reflect unappealingly on your personality.
2. Avoid low waist bottom wear
If you want to look professional enough for people to take you seriously, stay away from low waist trousers and denims at work! It is plain wrong.
3. When in doubt, go for brogues
Brogues are the must-have classics for men! If you’re unsure about what shoes to pick with those trousers you’ve recently bought, go for brogues. They come in different colours and are sure to make your dapper look stand out!
4. Wear the right accessories
The right cufflinks and a cool watch are just about enough when it comes to accessorising for men! Remember, don’t overdo your accessories. Bracelets and neck pieces are meant for women!
5. Watch your hair
Looking sharp is the key and your hairstyle at work adds a lot to it. Spending an extra 5 minutes on your hair so it looks neat and sharp is a must for every guy out there. Shabbily kept hair is a huge turn off for the people around you!
6. Invest in timeless basics
Something like a grey suit and a black tie will never go out of fashion. Even a pastel coloured polo tee works just fine when it comes to business casuals. It’s time to invest in such clothes! Remember – it’s not always good to follow the trends because they eventually die! Opt for style that makes you feel most at comfort and boost your confidence.
7. Button up
Yea yea, we know you’re a man. But flaunting your chest hair with that unbuttoned shirt on the top would not take you anywhere. The only button that needs to be open (if you’re not wearing a tie) is the first button below the collar!
8. Act your age
No matter what you wear, if you don’t have the right attitude to carry it – the whole point gets defeated! Remember to act according to your age and keep the swag on!

15 Makeup tips for beginners
Makeup can accentuate your best features and cover up the ones that don’t flatter your looks. However, poorly applied makeup can transform your look into something new, and not a good kind of new. Ladies, we all are beginners at some point and knowing the right technique comes with time. Here are 15 makeup tips for beginners that will help you go pro.
1) Use white pencil liner in your waterline to make them appear bigger.
2) Apply a lighter shade of eye shadow near the inside ridge to brighten up your eyes.
3) Fix your clumpy mascara by putting 2 to 3 drops of any eye drops/ lens solution in it.
4) Know your eye shape to accentuate your eyes in the right way.
5) Use a business card to apply mascara for more length and volume.
6) Match your foundation shade on your neck.
7) Know where to apply your blush according to your face shape.
8) Always apply your foundation in downward strokes.
9) To make your lipstick last longer, apply one coat of colour and then hold a tissue over your lips and apply some powder over the tissue using a brush.
10) Use primer instead of makeup remover to get away with any mistakes. It wipes off the make-up while preparing the skin for the next use.
11) Cover your eyelid with white eye shadow before applying another colour to make your eye shadow colour pop.
12) If you’re out of brow pencil then use an eye shadow instead. Make sure you choose the right shade of brown to match your eyebrows.
13) After applying mascara, use an eyelash comb or a spoolie brush to remove clumps.
14) To curl your eyelashes better, blow dry your lash curler for 5 seconds. Make sure it’s not very hot.
15) Pat your cheeks with a tissue or clean sponge after applying the foundation and setting it with powder for a more natural look.

Get the perfect smokey eye with these simple steps!
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not so hard to get the perfect smokey eye at home. Before stepping out in the evening next time, take a look at this tutorial and get the flawless look.
Step 1. Prep and prime the eyes to prevent the eye makeup from creasing. You can use an eye primer or concealer of your choice.
Step 2. With a black eyeliner, cover the entire eyelid (stopping just underneath the crease). Don’t worry about being precise; we will eventually blend this out.
Step 3. With the pointy brush, blend the eyeliner all over the eyelid (again, just below the crease).
Step 4. With a shading brush, apply a dark brown eye shadow all over the eyelid, taking the colour upwards (slightly passing the crease).
Step 5. With a fluffy blending brush, buff-out the sharp lines and edges, blending the colours together for a seamless finish. Use small circular motions.
Step 6. Using a flat eye shading brush, press on black eye shadow all over the eyelid stopping just before the brown colour starts. Blend the black colour up into the brown eye shadow using the fluffy blending brush again.
Step 7. Using the pointy brush again, apply the same dark brown eye shadow to draw a line along the bottom lash line.
Step 8. Using black eye pencil or gel liner, line your lower waterline. Curl your lashes and apply 2-3 coats of black volumising mascara or you may use false lashes.
Step 9. Using a clean eye shadow brush, apply a shimmery beige eye shadow to the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye. And you’re done.

Here’s why it’s important to wash your makeup brushes regularly!
Makeup brushes are an important investment for every woman and rightly so. Gone are the days when applying foundation meant blending it with your fingers until it matched your correct skin tone. Now there is a plethora of brushes available in the markets which do the exact same job in a much better and hygienic fashion. However, like any other priced possession (yes, they are expensive), owning makeup brushes comes with its own set of responsibilities. Here’s why?
Why is it important to clean makeup brushes?
We are not saying that you are dirty but makeup brushes have build-ups of product, bacteria, dead skin cells, oil and residue. It’s important that you clean them on a regular basis before using them on your skin to avoid breakouts and infections. Besides, you don’t want to transfer all the bacteria every time you dip your brush into your favourite pot of concealer.
How often should one clean makeup brushes?
If you use makeup brushes on a regular basis then we suggest cleaning them twice every week. If you use them less often then it’s suggested you clean them once every two weeks. Please note that the list of brushes to be cleaned includes your gel eyeliner and lip liner brushes too.
