Here are all the reasons why Valentine’s Day is annoyingly overrated!

What exactly is so special about Valentine’s Day that makes half of the world go mad and do things out of their way just to make their better half feel special? We don’t mean to offend you but Valentine’s week is one of the stupidest things on the face of the Earth. Let us walk you through it so we can explain our point better. It might just help you and leave your wallet heavy, the way it should be. These reasons will tell you why Valentine’s Day is annoyingly overrated.

#1 The Valentine’s week!

First of all, who came up with this thing and why? That person had to make things difficult for a man like it wasn’t already difficult to handle relationships and make their other half feel pampered. Pretty sure that person had a lot of money on him. Anyway, moving on to the first day, that’s Rose day. A rose that costs you not more than twenty bucks is sold for triple the amount and that’s just a start because not all girls are going to be happy with just ONE rose. You’ve got to save up for this damned week!

Next is Propose Day and man, is anything scarier than that? There is, and it’s coming for you. But talking about Propose day, you can’t do that empty handed, so you need to get a gift and there’s only one thing that comes to our mind, a ring. Look at you, already sweating and oh, remember, the ring should be the perfect size and type. All the best with that!

Up next is Chocolate Day, you know what that means? A chocolate will make your girl happier than you will. That one might hurt. You can take revenge by eating that chocolate and never let your girl have it. But you’re safe if your girlfriend has recently joined gym. You just got lucky.

The second most annoying day after Valentine’s Day goes to Teddy Day. The day that makes you look stupid and you’re probably okay with it. Carrying a big ass teddy that cost you half your pocket money, how can you not wipe your tears off of that thing? You deserve that much!

We just told you that that there’s something scarier than Propose Day and it’s coming for you. Well, it’s here and in the Valentine’s language, it’s called Promise Day. Now, remember, if your better half asks you to make a promise, choose your words wisely and please don’t use the word ‘forever’. That’d be a really stupid thing to do because they WILL remember the ‘promise’. Do not take this lightly; after all, you got yourself into this mess.

The next two days are what people (mostly men) actually wait for and want to celebrate, Hug Day followed by Kiss Day. And not in a desperate manner, but because men actually prefer these two things more than chocolates, teddy bears, roses and all that, no two ways about it!

The last and the most important day (only God knows why), Valentine’s Day, is the day of love. But we’re still unable to understand why it is so special. You don’t need a specific set of days to pamper your better half or a specific day to tell them how much you love them or how much they matter to you. That can be done any day of the year!

Other than that, it gets annoying seeing the colour red every damn where! There’s no compulsion to wear red and especially be all match-matchy! That’s not cool.

#2 Expectations are on the rise!

That goes without saying, after all the drama you’ve been doing for a week, expectations are always on a rise and sadly your pocket isn’t. And everybody knows how problematic both the things are. It’s always hard to keep up with someone’s expectations and to meet them is just another story. So, if your better half is expecting something from you, be ready to entertain them.

Valentine’s Day makeup tutorial by KathleenLights

If you’re someone who is new to the world of makeup or has a constant struggle with eye shadow, this tutorial is your help. This look is neutral yet sexy and is perfect for Valentine’s Day. It’s also suitable for date night and you can also switch up your lip colour with nude, coral or pink for day time. First thing first, prep your face with a good face primer to minimise your pores and fine lines. Not only does it hold your makeup for a long time but also acts as a protective layer between your skin and your foundation. Know everything about face primers here.

FACE

Foundation

Apply a good coverage foundation and buff it into your skin so it does not get cakey.

Concealer

Use a highlighting concealer to conceal the dark circles under your eyes (if any) and other usual areas of your face like the centre of your forehead, bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow and around your mouth. And blend, blend, blend!

Compact/Powder

Set the concealed areas with a translucent powder so it doesn’t crease.

EYES

Eye primer

Prime your entire eyelids with an eye primer. Like a face primer, eye primer allows your eye shadow to blend well and keep it for a longer time.

Eye shadow

Give your eyes some dimension by applying light brown colour to the outer corner of your eye and the crease area.

Apply cream colour eye shadow to the brow bone and inner corner of your eyes to highlight them.

Now use a dark brown colour and apply it close to both your lower and top eyelashes.

Wing out your black gel liner and smudge it lightly to give it a soft finish.

Use the same light brown eye shadow you used before and sweep along your lower lashes to give a nice shadow.

Tightline your eyes with a stroke of black kohl and finish up with two coats of mascara on both top and bottom lashes.

You can use false lashes if you want (it’s optional).

Now, complete the rest of your face with a bronzer. This will balance out the eye makeup by adding warmth to your face.

Add some colour to the apples of your cheeks with a coral or pink blush.

Highlight the high points of your face using a subtle gold highlighter.

And the show stopper, red lipstick. Keep it matte. You can also line your lips with red lip liner before applying your lipstick.

And, you’re ready to embrace your date night or a day brunch looking like a star.

1)    ‘Love Stinks’ – J. Geils Band, 1980

J Geils Band’s ‘Love Stinks’ was the most popular anti-love anthem of the 80s and still manages to make it to the top of our anti-love playlist. 10 places you should definitely not be found coochie cooing at this Valentine’s Day!

If you don’t have a private space to canoodle this Valentine’s Day, please do everyone a favour and avoid doing it at all! Nobody is interested in witnessing your PDA… seriously! And if you really have to make a big, ostentatious display of your love, kindly avoid the following places. They aren’t meant to be spots to celebrate affection. If you want to spend some ‘quality’ time, go to a quality place! Thank you very much.

1. Parks/Monuments – Ah! The clichéd target! Couples, couples everywhere… not a single foothold to play! Sorry Coleridge, but parks are truly NO LONGER places for little kids or pet lovers to revel in. And dear couples, while you’re at it, please spare our historical monuments from the declarations of your undying love.

2. Metro stations/ Inside the metro – Another ultra-shady place for the ‘siamese twins’ kinda couples who can never get their hands off each other! Train stations and even inside the train are big no-nos for PDA as the whole friggin’ world can see and secretly judge you!

3. Parking lots – We bet each one of us has had that ‘parking lot’ moment. Parking lots may sound fine once in your lifetime but on Valentine’s Day, we beg you – Do not follow the masses. Be a little creative.

4. Cinema halls – We get it… you think it’s dark and no one really gets to know much. But that’s not entirely true! The little kids around you or the bored aunty next you can totally tell what you’re up to. And if your idea of spending the day of romance is replete with clichés like watching ’50 Shades of Grey’ together, please, PLEASE rent a DVD and excuse us the torture.

5. Autos – Talking about 50 Shades, unless you want the ‘auto waley bhaiya’ to witness your version of the movie, we’d say avoid the mush in these humble vehicles of public use!

6. Back of the car when your friend is driving you around – That’s plain desperate. And sick! And unbelievably down-market. Gah!

7. The ‘gali’ outside someone’s house – We’re not in school now, are we? Sitting on the neighbour’s bike and indulging in those ‘sweet nothings’ is just passé. If that’s your idea of making her feel oh-so-special, we have bad news for you! Even if she stays in the same locality as you – Still no!

8. Lifts in the malls – Seriously?! Okay… if you must… as long as there’s no one else in the lift with you both. Also, make sure there are no hidden cameras around. And the most crucial part should be making sure that you’re done before you arrive on your floor lest the lift doors open in front of 10 people!

9. Fitting rooms – That’s daring! Unless you’re the highly intrepid sorts, please avoid yourself and others the obvious embarrassment. If both of you do manage to sneak out of the fitting rooms unnoticed, give yourself a pat on the back.

10.Public restrooms – Eeeeuwwwww! You’re just gross!
