  • How to turn a dress into a skirt

How to turn a dress into a skirt

Wearing a dress as a skirt doesn’t take any magical powers. Instead, it is probably a lot simpler than you think. It just takes a little trick and putting together the right pieces from your wardrobe. The great thing about this magic trick is that you can get more use out of those pretty looking dresses that once gave your savings a massive hit.

Ladies, you can actually wear all your dresses; a feather dress, a skater dress or a bandage dress in these chilly winter days by turning them into a skirt. Layer up your dress with a chunky sweater, leather jacket or basic knit and add some accessories (a statement necklace maybe?) to make heads turn.

Take a look at this video by the YouTuber Sydne Summer and learn how to turn a dress into a skirt.

11 Worst Fashion trends of 2015

2015 is coming to a close, and what could be a better way to end it than to look back at the fashion trends that we most regret? We’re not being negative here, just making a promise to end them in 2016! Take a look at these 11 worst fashion trends of 2015 that need to find a place in the graveyard right now.

    Wearing one earring

Blame this one on the top designers who chose to style their models with one big earring on, leaving the other lobe free. We are sorry, but you should ape this trend only if you want to look lost and distracting. People will remind you that you have misplaced one earring or will want to know if you forgot to wear the other earring while hurrying up to leave the house. To avoid this embarrassing situation say no to this… errmm… not-so-flattering style pronto!

    Rainbow hair

To let the world know that you are from a different planet or you belong to the peacock family, this hair trend will help you. People are going gaga over this hair colour trend and dying their hair in pale purple, electric blue, seafoam green and baby pink. We really don’t know what to call it… Peacock hair or Galaxy hair? But we do know one thing that these hair colours fade very fast and damage the hair, literally. Frankly, these cartoony shades have run their course and now it’s time for them to FADE.

    Kitten heels

Having a kitten as a pet is definitely a great thought but having kitten HEELS in your wardrobe… NO. Yes, kitten heels are comfortable to wear but unflattering too. Wedges can be a great option when it comes to adding height while remaining comfortable. But kitten heels?  Nahhh!

    Excessively distressed jeans

The easiest and most fashionable way to look chic and edgy is to pull on a pair of distressed jeans. But jeans that have huge, skin-exposing and foot-long holes looks like you pulled them out of the trash and they need to be laid to rest, like now!

    Short shorts

Shorts look sexy when styled properly and are also super comfy for those beach holidays or extra sunny days. But, (we are sorry) very short shorts look cheap and horrible. The question is, when the hemline of your shorts is higher than your underwear then what’s the need of wearing them?

    Flash tattoos

One day, Kylie Jenner posted her picture on Instagram with a hair tattoo and now it’s a trend… really? If you are a warrior or a princess then it’s a different story but have you actually seen this trend surface in real life or outside of social media? Definitely not! Put on a bracelet or go in for some cool hair accessories, if you want a flash of something shiny on your arm or hair. But Flash Tattoos, we’d say a BIG NO to that!

    Stiletto nails

This trend started by RiRi (our lovely Rihanna) had a MAJOR moment in 2014 and was also seen (sometimes) in 2015. Two years has been a long enough time for these claw-like manis. Now, it’s time to file your nails into a shape that mimics that of your cuticles for a more natural look. In 2016, go for classic short square or round shaped nails because, after all, less will finally be more.

    Fake contact lenses

When you already have beautiful eyes, there’s no need to get all freaky with contacts. Why would somebody want to look like an alien? Embrace your natural beauty and accept what God has gifted you with. Don’t fake it, girl.

    Dyed armpit hair

Why would somebody want to see your armpit hair? Eeewwww…… this is sounding gross. In our opinion, dyed armpit hair looks as terrible as it sounds. Miley Cyrus was paid to get her pit hair coloured in hot pink and come on she is “Miley Cyrus”. Do we need to say more? This is absolutely the most unrealistic trend and it is really hard to see this trend survive, not for a single f***ing day.

    3D nail art

It’s no longer about building 3-D designs on your nails. 2016 is going to be all about shorter nail lengths and negative space manicures. Your natural nails should show through the design. Ditch those nail art kits and tools because it’s all about nude and grey nails which look simple as well as classy.

    Ombre hair

Bye, ombré. Having hair that goes from black to bleach blonde is not a look that can be found naturally and makes a person look like they have not seen their stylist for two years. It’s balayage year, the hair colour technique which involves painting on highlights for a more natural, sun-kissed finish that grows out beautifully.

11 Worst makeup trends of 2015

Every year brings with itself a list of trends that we prepare ourselves for. Some turn out to be good, some bad and some make us feel why they existed in the first place. It’s a safe trick to follow a trend that looks good on a celeb or a supermodel but blindly following a trend just because it was spotted in the magazines or on the runway is not always the right choice. Just to help all you makeup lovers out there, we’ve spotted some of the worst makeup trends from 2015 that we hope to God find a nice place in the graveyard of departed makeup trends. Here are the 11 worst makeup trends of 2015. Take a look.

    Warning: lots of drama ahead

    Clumpy lashes

There is nothing good about clumpy mascara and this is certainly not a makeup trend anyone needs in 2016. It makes your eyelashes look absolutely strange and also takes a hell lot of time to come off. So, if you were on the clumpy lash train in 2015, it’s time to get off now. Thanks to runway looks, clumpy lashes gained popularity this year but this makeup trend should be just forgotten as a scary nightmare.

    Black lips

Jet-black lips for casual Friday at office? Sounds horrible. You really don’t want your friends or colleagues feeling like you were rehearsing for Halloween, do you? Since black lipstick is actually pretty difficult to pull off and might make you look witchy, this beauty trend should be left in 2015 only. Switch your black bullet for an ox-blood or burgundy lip color, like the Kendall sisters, and please do not ever go back.

    Cream contouring

The importance of contouring was no doubt the most powerful makeup lesson of 2015 but even good things have a limit. No one needs as much contouring as Kim Kardashian to get through life and the sooner one learns the lesson, the better it is for them. Cream contour gives you that chiseled look that works under bright red carpet lights and for photo shoots but refrain from using it everyday. 2016 is going to be all about subtle contouring, which is not just easier and faster but gives you a more naturally sculpted look.

    Extra long lashes

Long eyelashes is a timeless trend but the extensively artificial lashes can make your eyes look smaller or change the shape of your eyes for the worse. False lashes also weigh your eyelids down making you go look sleepy in place of sexy. We won’t deny that false eyelashes add drama to your look but if your falsies are so heavy that you can’t even open your eyes fully then well, there isn’t much point.

    Eyebrows with added filters

There are so many ways to make those brows look awesome but the FILTERED eyebrows are not one of them. Eyebrows are imperative in defining the frame of your face but if they’re overly filled in and squared-off at the beginning, it looks like they were drawn in a geometry class. Let’s do them better in 2016? Your brows should always look feathery and natural, so they leave you looking sharp and fresh, rather than harsh and fake.

    Sharp eyeshadows

Clearly defined bands of colours on the eyelid look horrible and are easily the worst nightmare of every makeup artist. Eye makeup is not about applying oodles of colours on the eyes; that normally just scares people off. The key to getting eye makeup right is BLENDING! So blend away.  And when you think you’re done blending, blend some more. Your face will thank you for doing this.

    Too much bronzer

Now, bronzer has been around for a while but 2015 really made it’s importance felt in the world of makeup. However, it didn’t quite warn the world against overloading their face with bronzer. It’s not cool to look like you were stuck on a tropical island for years without SPF. Bronzer gives your skin a sun-kissed look and a healthy glow but you wouldn’t want people to think you were battling jaundice. A quick swipe of bronzer is a great way to warm up your skin and even fake a day at the beach. But any more than that and you’ll just look radioactive.

    Mismatched lip liner

Let’s all maintain 10 seconds of silence for this very uncomfortable trend. Let’s just say it’s best to follow the age-old makeup rule of matching your lip liner to your lipstick but you can’t be giving people panic attacks by applying two different shades on one pair of lips. NO! Dark lip liner with dark lipstick – fab; dark lip liner with lighter lipstick – HELL NO! Please, we say please do not take this to 2016. It. Must. Die.

    Overdrawn lips

Who are you trying to fool? The world can look through that drawing on your face! They can see those lips! If you don’t like your thin lips, we’d suggest a permanent lip job (like Anushka Sharma). Overlining your lips is not an easy thing to do and is definitely not a solution. It’s a lot of work to put into changing your appearance and trying to do what you “think” looks good. Don’t try to feed in unreal expectations into everybody’s head of how women should look. Let’s just embrace our real lips in 2016, okay?

    Frosted lips

80s made a comeback in 2015 not just in the world of fashion but also in the world of beauty and makeup. Brown lip colour we can deal with. Frosted lipstick? No, thank you. It looks weirdly outdated. While this is only a minor offence, the frosty, Barbie-like lipstick has got to go. The 80s are over, and so is this trend. Keep your look more, uh, this century with a glossy or matte product.

    Super-dark smoky eyes

We’ve seen smoky eyes and nude lips on almost everyone from actors, singers to models on fashion week runways and otherwise. But here’s the deal ladies, smoky eyes look more flattering when they have some dimension rather than having a solid black colour all over your eyelid; starting from your lash line to your brow bone. Smoky eyes can be the essential for a dramatic and sexy look, but if you apply too much shadow you can barely see your eyes in the mirror, it’s time to tone it down, waaayyyy down.

So this was our list of worst makeup trends of 2015. We hope that these are wiped off from the face of the earth like many other social evils in 2016. Do you know of any makeup trends that deserve to be in a graveyard? Do let us know in the comments section. Stay stylish ladies!

  • Champagne is great, not just for your mood but skin and hair too! Let’s stock some more.

Champagne is great, not just for your mood but skin and hair too! Let’s stock some more.

Every celebration remains incomplete without popping a sizzling bottle of champagne. But did you know that champagne can improve your skin and hair and you can get beauty benefits from that bottle of bubbly?

We recently learned that champagne can help in weight loss (yes, you read that right) and improves your memory which gives all champagne-lovers another reason to have it but there are few other benefits of champagne that include gorgeous skin and shiny hair. Take a look at these beauty benefits of champagne.

    1. Use champagne for smooth and silky hair

Mix one part champagne with equal amount of warm water in a bottle and spray the mixture evenly on your hair after shampooing and conditioning. Leave it for some time to soak in while you get ready and then style your hair as you normally do. This hair treatment is an excellent way to keep your hair healthy and will make it look and smell good. Champagne is an amazing hair rinse and also acts as a volume booster for your hair.

    2. Get glowing skin with champagne

Another one of many beauty benefits of champagne is that it helps you get glowing skin. Champagne makes for a great skin toner because it contains grapes which are a good source of antioxidants and also carries Vitamin C and E. It brightens up your skin and is smoother than store-boughtproducts. Dilute one part of champagne with one part water, soak a cotton pad into the mixture and wipe across freshly washed face and neck. Make sure to do this once or twice a week because alcohol tends to dry skin out. Don’t forget to moisturise your face afterwards for great results. You can also create a purifying facial mask by adding champagne to a bit of clay. This can make life easier for people with oily skin.

    3. Make a bubble bath from your bubbly while you sip it

Champagne can make a wonderful exfoliating bubble bath because the carbon dioxide bubbles help in slopping off all your dead skin and exfoliate dry winter skin. Mix it with a little bit of bath gel and you have a perfect spa at home. Now it’s time to hop into your bath tub, relax in your bubble bath and see your dry dull skin getting exfoliated while you sip on to a glass of bubbly.

Now that you’ve discovered so many beauty benefits of champagne, you will need to save more money to stock up more champagne not just for drinking. Cheers!

  • Winter care essentials for women

    Winter care essentials for women

Winter comes with its own package of festivities. It is the time for joy and comfort where we bid farewell to the present year and look forward to the new year with an optimistic approach. Here are a few winter care essentials for all of you to make the best out of this winter without compromising on your skin so girls, not just Christmas, look impeccable each day and groom yourself well this fall.

    winter-care-in-post

    Source

    1) Use body oil

Winters tend to strip your skin off its natural moisture. In order to keep it looking healthy and hydrated, it is essential to moisturise your body to avoid dryness. Contrary to popular opinion, oils are much preferable to lotions, as the skin absorbs oil faster and does not give your skin that layer of grease.

    2) Make dry shampoo a part of your daily routine

Are you troubled by dry hair and split ends? Shampooing your hair everyday during winters will not help your cause as it takes away the natural oil from your scalp leaving your hair dry and damaged. It is recommended to use dry shampoo to keep your scalp clean and your hair looking luscious.

    3) Change your morning routine to suit the winter

It’s important to change your morning routine according to the prevailing season. Winter also calls for a change in our routine, there are people who are reluctant to let go off their cosy blankets and on the other hand many can’t start their day without talking a shower. But girls make sure that you don’t spend more that fifteen minutes under the shower to avoid dryness and use lukewarm water to shower.

    4) Sunscreen is important for winter too

Sunscreens are not just important during summer, but they also make for an imperative part of your winter regime. SPF protects your skin from the ultraviolet rays of the sun and generates a protective barrier against the harsh wind keeping your skin feeling supple.

    5) Drink for beauty

You might not feel like you need to drink a lot of water during winters but that does not mean that you reduce your water intake. Drink a lot of water, drinks that contain anti-oxidants and green tea to keep your skin glowing.

    6) Do not forget to moisturise your lips

Wear your lipstick during the day but don’t forget to moisturise your lips at night. Lips have the softest skin and it takes no time to for your lips to chap. Ensure that you apply some lip balm or almond oil and sleep over it. Almond oil makes your lips retain its pinkness even if you are a smoker.

  • Have you tried baking your makeup to get flawless skin?

Have you tried baking your makeup to get flawless skin?

Baking makeup has become a popular drag in the professional makeup community and thanks to the reality TV star Kim Kardashian, the technique has become a major hit around the world. No, baking makeup doesn’t really require actual cooking. The only thing you’ll be ‘baking’ is your concealer and your patience, as baking makeup is a tedious process. Worry not, if you can catch up with contouring and strobing, then you can definitely get hold of baking your makeup. Here’s how you can get flawless and crease-free skin by baking your makeup.

Baking makeup is a highlighting technique in which you set your concealer with a generous amount of translucent powder and allow it to sit on your face for five to ten minutes. The heat from your skin allows your foundation and concealer to set, giving your skin a smooth and crease-less finish.

    What-Baking-Makeup

    Source

Learn how baking your makeup can give you a poreless, picture-perfect celebrity-like skin with these easy steps:

    1. Start off by prepping and priming your skin with your usual routine and apply your foundation.
    2. After applying your foundation, hydrate your under-eye skin with a good eye cream to minimise the appearance of any fine lines or pores. You can try Bobbi Brown’s hydrating eye cream.
    3. Apply two thick layers of your concealer in upward direction from underneath your eye towards your temples. Blend it using a damp makeup sponge and let it set for five minutes.
    4. Dust a layer of translucent powder to set your concealer and smooth out all the creases.
    5. Now, bake or cook your makeup. Spray some setting spray on a damp makeup sponge and dip it into your translucent powder. Apply the loose powder by dabbing a generous amount below the under eye area, the hollows of your cheeks and the temple of your nose.
    6. Leave the powder to set for at least five to ten minutes.
    7. Using a fluffy eye shadow brush, load some compact powder of your shade and gently start dusting off the translucent powder. By using a compact powder you add a little more colour and coverage to the areas that are baked. Blend away harsh edges and viola you’re baked.

Take a look at this video by Heidi Hamoud to know more about baking your way towards flawless skin.

Attention ladies! Here’s how you can make your makeup last longer

We understand that it can be a task to keep your makeup from fading, especially at times when you can’t always run to the powder room for touch ups. One of the best ways to make your makeup last longer is by using the right kind and amount of products. If your skin is smooth and hydrated, your makeup will last longer and your skin will look illuminated. Here’s how you can make your makeup last longer.

    1) Prime time: Use a primer wisely before applying your makeup. Excess primer also makes your skin look cakey. Don’t just restrict your primer to your face, apply your primer on your eyelids and even on your lips to make your makeup last longer.

    2) Conceal first: Many people apply their foundation first and then use the concealer but one of the best ways to make your makeup last longer is to apply your concealer first and then layer your foundation. The foundation sticks on to the concealer and gently illuminates the skin without making it cakey.

    3) Use brushes instead of your hands: Our hands carry natural oils that blend into the makeup making it sticky.

    4) Use a light weight moisturiser: Thick moisturisers may stick into the pores, making it difficult to layer different products. Use a light weight moisturiser that keeps your pores small leaving a soft and supple base to apply makeup.

    5) Invest in good quality waterproof products that don’t smudge due to sweat or natural face oil.

    6) Stop re-touching your makeup: While it’s tempting to re-touch your makeup every now and then, it’s a big no if you want to make your makeup last longer. Re-applying makeup can dehydrate your skin from its natural oils and increases the size of your pores making your skin dull and washed out.

    7) Don’t overdo powder: Use a translucent setting powder to set your makeup and blend well with minimum product. Excess powder creases on the skin and gives an uneven finish.

    8) Spray to set: Setting sprays are a blessing for those who are looking to make their makeup longer. Spray over each layer of makeup to prevent patches and fading.
