11 Worst Fashion trends of 2015

2015 is coming to a close, and what could be a better way to end it than to look back at the fashion trends that we most regret? We’re not being negative here, just making a promise to end them in 2016! Take a look at these 11 worst fashion trends of 2015 that need to find a place in the graveyard right now.

    Wearing one earring

Blame this one on the top designers who chose to style their models with one big earring on, leaving the other lobe free. We are sorry, but you should ape this trend only if you want to look lost and distracting. People will remind you that you have misplaced one earring or will want to know if you forgot to wear the other earring while hurrying up to leave the house. To avoid this embarrassing situation say no to this… errmm… not-so-flattering style pronto!

    Rainbow hair

To let the world know that you are from a different planet or you belong to the peacock family, this hair trend will help you. People are going gaga over this hair colour trend and dying their hair in pale purple, electric blue, seafoam green and baby pink. We really don’t know what to call it… Peacock hair or Galaxy hair? But we do know one thing that these hair colours fade very fast and damage the hair, literally. Frankly, these cartoony shades have run their course and now it’s time for them to FADE.

    Kitten heels

Having a kitten as a pet is definitely a great thought but having kitten HEELS in your wardrobe… NO. Yes, kitten heels are comfortable to wear but unflattering too. Wedges can be a great option when it comes to adding height while remaining comfortable. But kitten heels?  Nahhh!

    Excessively distressed jeans

The easiest and most fashionable way to look chic and edgy is to pull on a pair of distressed jeans. But jeans that have huge, skin-exposing and foot-long holes looks like you pulled them out of the trash and they need to be laid to rest, like now!

    Short shorts

Shorts look sexy when styled properly and are also super comfy for those beach holidays or extra sunny days. But, (we are sorry) very short shorts look cheap and horrible. The question is, when the hemline of your shorts is higher than your underwear then what’s the need of wearing them?

    Flash tattoos

One day, Kylie Jenner posted her picture on Instagram with a hair tattoo and now it’s a trend… really? If you are a warrior or a princess then it’s a different story but have you actually seen this trend surface in real life or outside of social media? Definitely not! Put on a bracelet or go in for some cool hair accessories, if you want a flash of something shiny on your arm or hair. But Flash Tattoos, we’d say a BIG NO to that!

    Stiletto nails

This trend started by RiRi (our lovely Rihanna) had a MAJOR moment in 2014 and was also seen (sometimes) in 2015. Two years has been a long enough time for these claw-like manis. Now, it’s time to file your nails into a shape that mimics that of your cuticles for a more natural look. In 2016, go for classic short square or round shaped nails because, after all, less will finally be more.

    Fake contact lenses

When you already have beautiful eyes, there’s no need to get all freaky with contacts. Why would somebody want to look like an alien? Embrace your natural beauty and accept what God has gifted you with. Don’t fake it, girl.

    Dyed armpit hair

Why would somebody want to see your armpit hair? Eeewwww…… this is sounding gross. In our opinion, dyed armpit hair looks as terrible as it sounds. Miley Cyrus was paid to get her pit hair coloured in hot pink and come on she is “Miley Cyrus”. Do we need to say more? This is absolutely the most unrealistic trend and it is really hard to see this trend survive, not for a single f***ing day.

    3D nail art

It’s no longer about building 3-D designs on your nails. 2016 is going to be all about shorter nail lengths and negative space manicures. Your natural nails should show through the design. Ditch those nail art kits and tools because it’s all about nude and grey nails which look simple as well as classy.

    Ombre hair

Bye, ombré. Having hair that goes from black to bleach blonde is not a look that can be found naturally and makes a person look like they have not seen their stylist for two years. It’s balayage year, the hair colour technique which involves painting on highlights for a more natural, sun-kissed finish that grows out beautifully.

11 Worst makeup trends of 2015

Every year brings with itself a list of trends that we prepare ourselves for. Some turn out to be good, some bad and some make us feel why they existed in the first place. It’s a safe trick to follow a trend that looks good on a celeb or a supermodel but blindly following a trend just because it was spotted in the magazines or on the runway is not always the right choice. Just to help all you makeup lovers out there, we’ve spotted some of the worst makeup trends from 2015 that we hope to God find a nice place in the graveyard of departed makeup trends. Here are the 11 worst makeup trends of 2015. Take a look.

    Warning: lots of drama ahead

    Clumpy lashes

There is nothing good about clumpy mascara and this is certainly not a makeup trend anyone needs in 2016. It makes your eyelashes look absolutely strange and also takes a hell lot of time to come off. So, if you were on the clumpy lash train in 2015, it’s time to get off now. Thanks to runway looks, clumpy lashes gained popularity this year but this makeup trend should be just forgotten as a scary nightmare.

    Black lips

Jet-black lips for casual Friday at office? Sounds horrible. You really don’t want your friends or colleagues feeling like you were rehearsing for Halloween, do you? Since black lipstick is actually pretty difficult to pull off and might make you look witchy, this beauty trend should be left in 2015 only. Switch your black bullet for an ox-blood or burgundy lip color, like the Kendall sisters, and please do not ever go back.

    Cream contouring

The importance of contouring was no doubt the most powerful makeup lesson of 2015 but even good things have a limit. No one needs as much contouring as Kim Kardashian to get through life and the sooner one learns the lesson, the better it is for them. Cream contour gives you that chiseled look that works under bright red carpet lights and for photo shoots but refrain from using it everyday. 2016 is going to be all about subtle contouring, which is not just easier and faster but gives you a more naturally sculpted look.

    Extra long lashes

Long eyelashes is a timeless trend but the extensively artificial lashes can make your eyes look smaller or change the shape of your eyes for the worse. False lashes also weigh your eyelids down making you go look sleepy in place of sexy. We won’t deny that false eyelashes add drama to your look but if your falsies are so heavy that you can’t even open your eyes fully then well, there isn’t much point.

    Eyebrows with added filters

There are so many ways to make those brows look awesome but the FILTERED eyebrows are not one of them. Eyebrows are imperative in defining the frame of your face but if they’re overly filled in and squared-off at the beginning, it looks like they were drawn in a geometry class. Let’s do them better in 2016? Your brows should always look feathery and natural, so they leave you looking sharp and fresh, rather than harsh and fake.

    Sharp eyeshadows

Clearly defined bands of colours on the eyelid look horrible and are easily the worst nightmare of every makeup artist. Eye makeup is not about applying oodles of colours on the eyes; that normally just scares people off. The key to getting eye makeup right is BLENDING! So blend away.  And when you think you’re done blending, blend some more. Your face will thank you for doing this.

    Too much bronzer

Now, bronzer has been around for a while but 2015 really made it’s importance felt in the world of makeup. However, it didn’t quite warn the world against overloading their face with bronzer. It’s not cool to look like you were stuck on a tropical island for years without SPF. Bronzer gives your skin a sun-kissed look and a healthy glow but you wouldn’t want people to think you were battling jaundice. A quick swipe of bronzer is a great way to warm up your skin and even fake a day at the beach. But any more than that and you’ll just look radioactive.

    Mismatched lip liner

Let’s all maintain 10 seconds of silence for this very uncomfortable trend. Let’s just say it’s best to follow the age-old makeup rule of matching your lip liner to your lipstick but you can’t be giving people panic attacks by applying two different shades on one pair of lips. NO! Dark lip liner with dark lipstick – fab; dark lip liner with lighter lipstick – HELL NO! Please, we say please do not take this to 2016. It. Must. Die.

    Overdrawn lips

Who are you trying to fool? The world can look through that drawing on your face! They can see those lips! If you don’t like your thin lips, we’d suggest a permanent lip job (like Anushka Sharma). Overlining your lips is not an easy thing to do and is definitely not a solution. It’s a lot of work to put into changing your appearance and trying to do what you “think” looks good. Don’t try to feed in unreal expectations into everybody’s head of how women should look. Let’s just embrace our real lips in 2016, okay?

    Frosted lips

80s made a comeback in 2015 not just in the world of fashion but also in the world of beauty and makeup. Brown lip colour we can deal with. Frosted lipstick? No, thank you. It looks weirdly outdated. While this is only a minor offence, the frosty, Barbie-like lipstick has got to go. The 80s are over, and so is this trend. Keep your look more, uh, this century with a glossy or matte product.

    Super-dark smoky eyes

We’ve seen smoky eyes and nude lips on almost everyone from actors, singers to models on fashion week runways and otherwise. But here’s the deal ladies, smoky eyes look more flattering when they have some dimension rather than having a solid black colour all over your eyelid; starting from your lash line to your brow bone. Smoky eyes can be the essential for a dramatic and sexy look, but if you apply too much shadow you can barely see your eyes in the mirror, it’s time to tone it down, waaayyyy down.

So this was our list of worst makeup trends of 2015. We hope that these are wiped off from the face of the earth like many other social evils in 2016. Do you know of any makeup trends that deserve to be in a graveyard? Do let us know in the comments section. Stay stylish ladies!

Top Twitter trends of 2015 and what they were all about!

There’s a lot that happened in 2015 across the globe. Some events were so unfortunate that they ended up harming the lives of many and some made us feel grateful about the fact that the world is just a small community of people who are constantly on a look out for each other.

The common thread between the events is that they brought people together, not just from different cities but from many nations and all we have to thank is the power of social media and hashtags.

Let us now take a recap into the year and the top Twitter trends of 2015 that caught the attention of the Indian audience and what they were all about.

    1. #JeSuisCharlie

Je Suis Charlie, the French phrase for ‘I am Charlie’ was an unfortunate event that took place in early January 2015 in Paris and the world is still recovering from it. The mishap involved a massacre of twelve people at the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s offices.

    2. #AIBRoast

Talking about roasts, All India Bakchod released their roast on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in late January 2015 and boy, it was big (no pun intended). With Karan Johar as the roast master, the AIB knockout garnered innumerable views on YouTube before it got involved into many controversies and was eventually taken down from the site. For those who didn’t get an opportunity to watch it, you have no idea what you’ve missed.

    3. #TheDress

A dress photo that went viral in February 2015 with over ten million tweets gave us sleepless nights all because of its colours that varied from one eye to another. ‘The dress’ divided the people of the world into two halves, with the first half seeing its colours as white & gold and the other half of the human population perceiving it to be as black & blue. The real colours of the dress are still a mystery to us and we’d be happy to be a part of the much-awaited reality.

    4. #BieberRoast

The Comedy Central roast of singer Justin Bieber took place in March 2015 and gave the world a good laugh all at his expense. The roast made headlines while giving birth to one of the biggest Twitter trends of the year involving celebrities like Kevin Hart, Ludacris, Martha Stewart, Shaquille O’Neal among others. We bet none of us missed that!

    5. #DadBod

Gone are the days when women used to drool over ripped men with abs and a balanced diet. Spending all those hours at the gym while checking out every chiseled muscle in front of the mirror is just passé. What’s new is the DadBod, appreciation for those extra kilos, which started trending with the hashtag #Dadbod. It was an Internet sensation where women expressed their love for flabby men. The point here to be noted here is that dadbod is NOT about fat men, it’s about those guys who perhaps were really fit once and have been taking it easy for a bit. Afterall, those few slices of pizza with beer never killed anybody!

    6. #LoveWins

American Supreme court’s ruling on marriage equality gave the world a new hope and a beautiful reason to celebrate. The hashtag ‘Lovewins’ was a part of millions of tweets across America and around the world. The best part about the social media outburst was the fact that (reportedly) Twitter too added a small rainbow heart next to #LoveWins with every user’s tweet.

    7. #ShahidKiShaadi

Yes, that legendary day when the Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor married Mira Rajput. We bet lots of hearts were broken that day and people flooded the Internet with pictures and wishes for the fabulous couple.

    8. #IStandWithAhmed

Ahmed Mohamed is a 14-year-old kid from Texas who built a clock from a pencil case so he could impress his teachers. Little did he know that there was massive trouble coming his way when the teachers called the cops on him. The authorities at the Irving High School thought that the 14 year-old made a ‘hoax bomb’ and got it to school. Ahmed was handcuffed and taken to the police station where he was denied the right to make a call to his parents and was questioned without his attorney’s presence. The issue got so out of control that some big, we mean, BIG names came to Ahmed’s rescue. President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg amongst others made a genuine effort for his case!

    10. #PrayForParis

The evening of 13th November will always be remembered as one of the most dreaded days of 2015. The series of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in France did not just include hostage-taking but mass shootings and suicide bombings as well. Many innocent people suffered the darkness of terrorism for reasons everyone is trying to fathom. People were killed, faith was shattered and around midnight emerged the ‘Peace For Paris’ symbol sending out a strong message to the heartless that the world is united and will fight back.

    11. #ISIS

The Islamic state of Iraq and Syria reportedly claimed responsibility for the recent tragedy that occurred in Paris and left the world flabbergasted. For the same reason and many more, the Islamic militant group (ISIS) was a part of the trending tweets on the social networking site.

    12. #FlyToFreedom

On The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, Indian celebrities Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were seen helping CNN spread awareness about modern slavery by shooting paper planes with a message written on them followed by a hashtag that read ‘Fly to Freedom’. CNN’s Freedom project is a humanitarian news media campaign that seeks to educate and advocate against modern slavery. The Diwale team too came together in support of the cause urging everyone to join the movement.
